Very exciting! I can't wait to see how this game turns out. Gonna go grab the new version in a bit.

Looks like "x" meets "Flatspace".
Will it haxe more options than "X The Terran Conflict"? (Boarding ships running factories ETC)
Or is it "just" a 2D remake of it?

I also guess the game will be very friendly to modders (most indies are).

We're planning open-world sandbox with exploration, resource acquisition, character progression, etc. As far as modding, it's already possible, and there are several mods out already. They need to be updated before they'll work with the new version, though.

I am thoroughly pleased with this new command design so far. It sounds like you may have some new changes to add to it, if the discussion on the detailed page is anything to go by. The system feels flexible enough at a glance so I'm not sure it really needs any major changes, but you guys are clearly quite capable at making intelligent design changes so I'll be looking forward to whatever it is you've come up with.

The ship codex is also a great addition, I'll have to spend some time with that later.

So basically in version 1.00 i will be able to prospect a asteroid/planed place a handwavium mine there and order some freighters to transport it to my stardock that will later spit out a Galactic Planet Destroyer that i will be able to refit with whatever weapons i can manufacture or buy from NPCs and go postal on the galaxy?

Who said you could do that? I'm not saying you can't- it just seems like a bad idea to make assumptions on what the intended game will turn into so early on in development. While it sounds like the game has some similarities to the X series on paper, from what I've played so far it feels like a very different game. It's not to say that you're wrong; it just seems a bit silly to apply that level of detail to something still in development.

I really hope they take as little inspiration from the X series as possible. Its pretty bad.

I think it's planned that we'll be able to place outposts on planets for resource exploitation. We'll need to find (or buy?) the blueprints to make stuff, after which presumably player-run factories that have the proper blueprints plugged in will turn resources into ships/weapons. I think custom weapon load-outs have been confirmed. I believe freighter convoys will be in the game. They're useful for target practice.

Fun stuff is planned:
Quote from: Starfarer FAQ
Can you say more about the economic model?

The economic model in Starfarer strives for one thing – to let you make meaningful choices.  For example, you know a planetary system has a certain illegal, secret weapons shipment headed its way. If it arrives, the rebels there will destabilize the planet, making it a ripe target for takeover. Do you wait, biding your time until the weapons hit the streets? Do you intercept the shipment and gain good will with the planet’s governor?  Or do you join the smugglers with a shipment of your own to speed up the planet’s downfall? The choice is yours.

I like the new patch so far, but I haven't been able to spend much time on it yet.

Well if there's resource aquisition then processing the said resourcess is the next logical step.
Besides the intended features they posted on the site are:
Hire officers to give skill bonuses, pilot auxiliary ships, and oversee your operations <- Operations like mining and industry right?
Explore the sector for knowledge and profit <- Finding technology and ore rich asteroids/planets.
Trade goods, run mining operations, build industries — and defend your interests <- Nuff said.

I really hope they take as little inspiration from the X series as possible. Its pretty bad.

Nah the game is great. it's just not for everyone. It takes a lot of patience... especially at the start where all you do is flying around in a slow freighter hoping to make profit till you can start your trade empire... not to mention a profitable factory complex.

And if we add causing rebelions on planets and dealing with pirates then we might have one hell of a game that may run on low end computers.

I think the topic of damageable ship systems has come up here before, so I thought I'd drop in and mention that it's implemented in the dev build :) Blog post here, and direct link to video of it in action here.

That was an awesome video. The damage modeling looks very logical (and clearly presented). Great work!
