I'd really enjoy that as well, but it won't be possible until we have a way to retreat from a battle without autoresolving and losing/surrendering most of your fleet. There really needs to be a 'tactical retreat' option that allows you to conduct a cohesive retreat and return to the system display, especially when you're in the sort of absurd situation where your fleet is facing off against a cap ship that can't catch you, which you can't kill (or the opposite, against light ships that you can't catch, that can't hurt you, that refuse to retreat).
Ed: Hahah, yeah, the retreat/surrender mechanics are completely wonky. Just took on a Hegemony SD fleet with my starting frigate, killed one Hound, and the rest retreated. I bagged an Onslaught, a Dominator, an Enforcer, a Condor, a Lasher, a Hound, and a wing of Broadswords. The only damage I did was killing that Hound and mild hits on some interceptors, as well as 39% damage to the Condor; from friendly fire, I guess.
Well. They attacked me twice; I got another Onslaught, another Enforcer, and another Condor out of it. Currently dodging and fighting off Hegemony and pirate raiding parties on the way to the 3T base for my insta-fleet.
Actually, scratch that. I've got enough for a battleship and supporting fleet, but the station doesn't have any Plasma cannons in stock yet, etc., so I'm just buying an elite crew, dropping one of my two graviton beams, adding engine and turret gyro +'s, and going back out to see if I can capture another Hegemony fleet for
another 300,000 credits.
Heheh. Just picked off another Hegemony fleet with my humble lil' Tempest; 2x Onslaught, 1x Dominator, 2x Enforcer, 2x Condor, 1x Hound, 1x Piranha wing, 1x Broadsword wing, with a bonus of a Lasher, another wing of Piranhas, and two wings of Talons from a group of pirates that tried to poach my catch. Geez, but navigating these vast fleets of uncrewed prize ships through a system full of hostile fleets is
fun!
...Okay. The whole Tempest + graviton beam = mass surrender feature is at least a tiny bit understandable; if the player is good enough, they'll never be caught, and will eventually manage to kill every enemy. But this... Okay, so I bought an Ion Cannon because I wanted to see how it performed. I mounted it in place of my Grav Beam (IOW, my only weapon) and attacked a Hegemony Patrol. I spent about five minutes flying circles around them frying their engines, certainly not belting out evil laughter. So the Ion Cannon is one of (the?) lowest-damage weapons in the game, with 25 damage per bolt and 50DPS, which makes sense, as it is essentially a special-use support weapon. What doesn't make sense is an entire patrol (including a carrier, destroyer, pair of frigates, and a couple wings of strike craft) mass surrendering to a ship that couldn't even crack the armor on their weakest fighters.
