Another potential exploit:

Save up enough credit to buy a single Onslaught battleship, stuff it full of flaks and Hypervelocity Drivers on all not-missile not-large slots to solve the problem with missiles, Piranhas, Broadswords and enemy shields, and you will be able to mow through pirate fleets like no other, without ever needing to pursue them down. A few outing with this is usually enough to build an entire fleet to deal with tougher ones like the 3T.
How is that an exploit? sounds like a balancing issue possibly, but battleships are supposed to be tough anyway.
Speaking of balancing...

Regarding the salvage station/storage facility on your mod, could you specify that all buy/sell prices at it are 0c?

Oh, I forgot I added that when I was making the update to fix the crash problem haha.

I was trying to do that, but there is no way currently to do so. At first it was player faction and was showing as "Your Orbital Station" but I couldn't find a way to adjust the prices, so I just changed it to an independent one. I was going to make it an independent base with its own cargo, but I never got around to adding cargo.

Ah.

In other news, my system now consists of four 3T attack fleets camping the Hegemony spawn, and a few pirate scouts running around aimlessly. I also learned why you don't sell your entire fleet to buy a Battlecruiser: they are slooooooooow. I ended up having to savescum because I was caught in an eternal chase with a frigate with a high-intensity laser that could outrun me, couldn't hurt me, and refused to retreat.

I've rather discovered that. I dropped a Tachyon lance in the starboard turret, and a pair of Plasma cannons in the port turrets. I had to take out the starboard IR lasers, but those are practically useless on something that slow anyhow, and I had space for a PD turret in one of them. But yeah, no more range problems ever again.

Okay, yeah. It's a known thing, I guess, but surrender is kinda' ridiculous right now.

One fight, my paragon manages to scare off most of a major group, so th'lot of them retreats. I end up with two onslaughts, two dominators, two condors, and enforcer, a lasher, and a pair of broadsword and talon fighter wings all surrendering to me. That's a little silly~

... incidentally, I appear to be the largest fleet on the map now. At least until all this junk gets repaired and I sell it, anyway. E:I got 309,025 credits for 'em all~

I've not managed to get beyond a fleet size of about three ...

I'm playing it as if I only have one life, and I consistently bite off more than I can chew when I think I'm starting to get a little bit powerful. I need to exercise a little more patience, or I'll never make a space pirate :(

What can really help is to lure fleets that are a little too large for you to handle into other fleets hostile to them. That'll usually damage and destroy enough of them for you to be able to take them. Also, just IMO, but you're usually better off going solo at least until you buy your first cruiser.

Getting into a fight of two factions already at it and looting away is something I dearly miss in this.

I'd really enjoy that as well, but it won't be possible until we have a way to retreat from a battle without autoresolving and losing/surrendering most of your fleet. There really needs to be a 'tactical retreat' option that allows you to conduct a cohesive retreat and return to the system display, especially when you're in the sort of absurd situation where your fleet is facing off against a cap ship that can't catch you, which you can't kill (or the opposite, against light ships that you can't catch, that can't hurt you, that refuse to retreat).

Ed: Hahah, yeah, the retreat/surrender mechanics are completely wonky. Just took on a Hegemony SD fleet with my starting frigate, killed one Hound, and the rest retreated. I bagged an Onslaught, a Dominator, an Enforcer, a Condor, a Lasher, a Hound, and a wing of Broadswords. The only damage I did was killing that Hound and mild hits on some interceptors, as well as 39% damage to the Condor; from friendly fire, I guess.

Well. They attacked me twice; I got another Onslaught, another Enforcer, and another Condor out of it. Currently dodging and fighting off Hegemony and pirate raiding parties on the way to the 3T base for my insta-fleet.

Actually, scratch that. I've got enough for a battleship and supporting fleet, but the station doesn't have any Plasma cannons in stock yet, etc., so I'm just buying an elite crew, dropping one of my two graviton beams, adding engine and turret gyro +'s, and going back out to see if I can capture another Hegemony fleet for another 300,000 credits.

Heheh. Just picked off another Hegemony fleet with my humble lil' Tempest; 2x Onslaught, 1x Dominator, 2x Enforcer, 2x Condor, 1x Hound, 1x Piranha wing, 1x Broadsword wing, with a bonus of a Lasher, another wing of Piranhas, and two wings of Talons from a group of pirates that tried to poach my catch. Geez, but navigating these vast fleets of uncrewed prize ships through a system full of hostile fleets is fun:D

...Okay. The whole Tempest + graviton beam = mass surrender feature is at least a tiny bit understandable; if the player is good enough, they'll never be caught, and will eventually manage to kill every enemy. But this... Okay, so I bought an Ion Cannon because I wanted to see how it performed. I mounted it in place of my Grav Beam (IOW, my only weapon) and attacked a Hegemony Patrol. I spent about five minutes flying circles around them frying their engines, certainly not belting out evil laughter. So the Ion Cannon is one of (the?) lowest-damage weapons in the game, with 25 damage per bolt and 50DPS, which makes sense, as it is essentially a special-use support weapon. What doesn't make sense is an entire patrol (including a carrier, destroyer, pair of frigates, and a couple wings of strike craft) mass surrendering to a ship that couldn't even crack the armor on their weakest fighters.  ::)

I whipped up another little video on that exploit, though it ended up running a bit long, as the only Hegemony fleet I could find had already lost all of its frigates and almost all its fighters. As always, woohoo terrible quality.

Oh, I am. My latest take was an entire, newly-spawned Hegemony fleet, minus the two Hounds and the wing of fighters I killed while triple-dipping on it. I'm sorta tempted to hang on to a copy of this version, just so I can keep this absurd game where I have 1.2m credits while I'm still in my starter frigate.  :P

So, out of curiosity, were the retreat/surrender mechanics linked to some sort of ratio between shots-fired and shots-hit, or on damage ratios between the two fleets, on time spent without killing a player-owned ship, or something else entirely?

Time spent without doing any hull damage, while taking some. It's reasonable enough to retreat in that situation, but not with the "surrender" mechanics the way they are. Ahem.
