As someone with a medusa, taking out an onslaught with only the one is... well, suicidal. You won't last that long. And you can't kite long with any ships now.

Interesting.

I apologize for sounding like I was flaming or something, but for some reason I always thought it was a big team doing the development.
And from the blog posts I'm pretty sure he must have doubled or tripled the scope of the game since it's inception, since the mechanics seem to have become a lot more involved than what he (probably) originally intended.
Actually the scope of the game was planned to be like that since he started work. Or at least the feature list was aways more or less the same since i saw it in... 2012 i think?

From what i understand Alex wants to turn his game into something aking to real time space rangers.

Supposedly they were really good at somepoint.

Not supposedly, but you aren't going to solo a whole fleet that has more than a single cruiser. They're still good beating up large amounts of destroyers and frigates though.

No, no, this was waaay back. When all you had to do was poke their shields without taking damage in return, so that you could proc the surrender. The Medusa wasn't quite fast enough in a straight line, but it's always been excellent for mid-sized fleet work because of how good it was at strafing. Plop a couple AM cannons, LR PD lasersm and pulse lasers on, and you could 1v1 just about anything short of a TTT cap ship.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Alex has a spriter or something working with him.

There's David, who does all the art, and I believe also the writing. There's also a guy who did all the sounds and music, but to my knowledge everything in the game was made by one of those three people.

Is there no way to force someone to surrender in this game? Everyone so far either fights to the death or turns to run and then gets blown up when I chase them.

I was going to play a piracy game where I board a ship and take some cargo then let it go but I guess that's not a thing.

Nope. Which is kinda annoying sometimes.

I'd really like more options for taking ships intact or forcing surrender. Boarding pods, special weapons, whatever. I tried ion weapons to disable the ship's engine but then they all just sat there quietly until the engines started up again and they tried to flee/fight some more.

It is a balance issue, I imagine. Capturing intact ships too easily or whole cargoholds full of stuff can make you too rich too fast. If the economy is balanced with that in mind, in turn it makes boarding/forcing surrender the only way to play properly.

I agree it should be in the game, but it is hard to balance.

I'm sure there is a balance point that can be struck between the two extremes of "Everyone fights to the death" and "Overpowered cash whoring"

I found this somewhere:

"0.65.1a-RC1 version is downloadable from the official site, and it seems to be working without any activation"

is this true? Is there a free test version or something like that?

After doing some research there is no such thing as free version of this game unless you go see some pirate.
