I'd say it's the best tactical/logistic space game I've seen since Nexus, but I'd have to amend that to say it's the best one I've played.

The Mandate looks like it could be incredible and there are few others kicking around that have a lot of potential, too.

My biggest complaint with Starsector is that there can't be multiplayer in a game that has some pretty deep decision making for design and piloting.  I want starsector to take off and make a massive amount of money, so he can redesign the engine for a tactical-only multiplayer version.  :-\

He might be losing the will and development has been slow, but Starsector is a good game and well worth the money AS IS.

I prefer to sail downhill.

I will see your out of context quote, and raise you absurdity!

No, seriously.  I expect he will update faster than Toady.  Not an apples to apples comparison, but what do you want? I'm typing with one hand while sailing vertically. FFS.

So how much does this game have in common with ambrosia escaped velocity?

I liked both very much?

I don't remember exactly how combat worked in EV, but combat is a lot of fun in Starsector. I generally give my troops a few orders and then focus on pounding the enemy team directly. It plays more like Mount and Blade in Space than anything.

This is more detailed.  NAEV is a good EV clone, but will never be finished.  Still, good and fun.

This has much more going on, tactically and logistically.  So it suffers in speed and casual arcadeyness, but is also awesome in thoes ways a simpler game cannot be.

A significant update has just dropped:

Looks great, expecting a hotfix or two over the next couple of days but the campaign layer is really starting to come in to play now.

Oh great news. I've been holding back from playing worrying about save incompatibility. Trying out 0.65 as we speak.

I am out of the loop and just started playing again now.  So many new things!  I've already lost about 20k failing at trading!  Feels just like my beginning days in mount and blade all over again :P

Well last time I played this, they only had a single sector, not sure what version number that was. Seems that they have multiple sectors now, but Officers isn't implemented yet.

I remember buying this game on a whip quite some time ago, playing it for few days, then not upgrading when new versions came and for what ever reason I eventually stopped reading the blog too... And now this game actually has sectors to travel to? Awesome, might wanna check it out again.

More than that. It evolved a LOT. There are actual events and a trading system in place now.

So yeah back when i bought it it was pretty barebones with just supplies useless fuel... and generally a cool combat game but terrible space sim as the "overworld" was pretty damn bare of features.
Now with the implementation of Combat Readyness more sectors and trade it became an actual game rather than a crappy alpha.
