Ah this may be the case, because my other water source is above ground.

Heres a link to the map:  The hospital cisterns is the poi http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-10056-sculptedangel

@Minnakht, I might consider moving it one level lower and thus be a new one (ie a copy directly underneath the existing and then removing the existing), but that would pose some difficulties.  If wells can use it thats ok though.

Ill just be sure to be extra careful with my baths, because it wouldnt be a dwarven bath if my dwarfs couldnt drink from it too :)

I've read the bit you wrote about the hospital cisterns there. And yes. The constructed walls and floors, once touched by saltwater, are corrupted forever and need to be wholly replaced.

Or I can see you have lots of free rock space next to that place - as long as you can spare some of it, you can pump water from the cistern to the new room mined out there and layered with walls and it'll be fine, even if the source zone will be one level higher.

I wanted is under the hospital so that the wells there would have immediate access to water.  I could move the hospital I suppose...

If you say that it'll be so hurtful for your dwarves to move horizontally a bit, then so be it, it's your fortress...

Lol.  Heh, it's not like I wan them to be as sedentary as possible I just want to have the most advanced hospital in the dwarf kingdom.  That involves docs not having to run outside to the well or artificial lake to wash their hands :)

Then extend the hospital horizontally too. Twice the size, and the well/lake isn't outside.
