Pre-Roman Games
« on: January 31, 2011, 01:05:30 pm »

I don't mean games that were invented or created before the Romans were about, I mean games that have an aesthetic or setting that's pre-Roman in it's nature. :p

So, like, Pharaoh by Sierra is pre-Roman.

There are just so few of them that I am disappoint, son.

Note: Doesn't need to actually be set on Earth, just needs to be pre-Roman / pre-Medieval in nature.

Wasn't Medieval, as in the Dark Ages, after the Roman empire?

Wow just reading this made me think and realise how rare they are. There is one RTS found online, have to pay for it, where you can play as Macedon during Alexander's rise to power, technicly set before the Romans became a major power, and LONG before it became an Empire. I forget the name though, sorry.

Um... Prince of Persia? Does that count?

Also any games with Alexander the Great, like The Great Battles of Alexander or Alexander.

EDIT: Titan Quest?

EDIT2: God of War?

I like Bronze, Its a hard game based on my favorite board game ever (Euphrates & Tigris).

Children of the nile is surprisingly good, when I first saw it I thought it was a kids game. It is infact a more realistic 'Pharoah' type of game. Highly recommend it.

Ancient Conquest. It's actually a pretty good RTS, made by the same guys that made Submarine Titans. It's Greece vs Persia, and it ship-based, with stuff like ramming and boarding. It's pretty much impossible to find a copy, though.

Played (and finished!) KoDP. Excellent game, I wish there were more like it.

Thanks for all these recommends, gents. Give me more, though! :p

You might want to check out titan quest. It's a classical Greek era diablo 2 clone.

Hegemony: Philip of Macedon is a great indie RTS that for some reason is barely mentioned on here. I've been meaning to make a thread on it.
