Yeah, I saw the other thread right after I posted that *facepalm*

I'd be willing to try playing as the Japanese, but keep in mind that while I'm a tech buff and a real nerd for all military vehicles/etc, I'm not that well versed with the Japanese planes/ships (as compared to Allied stuff which I've got down pretty well).  I've also debated which is a bigger logistical nightmare, supplying islands you have from the beginning, and thus dealing with a hodge podge of everything going every which way, or supplying islands you've captured yourself, and thus having your own organizational scheme from the start.

I'd lose, no doubts about it, but I always enjoy a good fight, even if I'm on the losing end.  I'd most definitely need the Japan boost if I play as them, though  :P

Japan has to go first, correct?  If so I may load it up after I get back from today's errands and see what I can do, and if it seems manageable even take a shot at it, lol.

Edit:  What's your position on auto-subs btw?

Yes, Japan moves first. Make sure you have either latest official version or latest beta first, though! And of course, the tracker.  ;)

Take your time with it, today, tomorrow, the day after, all ok.

Mhmm, I'm pretty sure it's patched up.  Just in case what's the version number you're on and I'll check?

Should we do historical first turn?

Historical first turn = neither side can change a thing. The "unhistorical" is basically historical, but both players are free to give orders - and of course, the Allied player will not create new TFs etc. but just sets fighters to fly CAP - the "December 7th surprise" rule involves a penalty on anything Allied that can fly, so theres 2/3 chance a plane wont fly any way.

I have both the latest beta and the latest official version, separate installs.

Mhmm, I was just wondering if you had a preference to what I set it to when I get around to it.  I'll go either way, though I think I'm going to leave the surprise on, as I can use all the help I can get  :P

Yeah definitely surprise on. Everything on, but check these OFF: reliable USN torpedoes, no unit withdrawals, and in the game options, AUTO SUB OPS, or the computer thinks it owns your subs if you leave them at port.

Any HR preferences? Take your time...

Yeah, those sound like the defaults I've been playing with.  I don't mind subs being comp controlled, I've figured out how to switch the individual ones I really care about, lol.  Would that take effect for both of us, or is that a per player setting?  And yes, the USN torpedoes sure do suck, I know that from my SP campaign.

As for house rules, nothing specific in mind, other then nothing that's obviously "gamey".  And yes, I must go for now, I'll take an in depth look tonight, if we do historical first turn I'll probably have a turn to send you so you can set the password.

OK.

On house rules, I'd limit night flying and have some altitude rules for fighters.

Erkki's opponent went AWOL, probably due to the horrifying beating he was taking, so I think this one can be labeled as a decisive Japanese victory.

Yes, July 4th 1942, Imperial year 2602, the United States and Britain signed a peace treaty with Japan, recognizing most of the Pacific, Philippines, all of Burma and all of China as Japan's Imperial colonies, and parts of the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere.

I have now a second PBEM going, now January 18th 1942, I'm AARing it over at the WitP:AE forums. I might start one here once we reach mid 42 or when something decisive happens!

Okay, I'm back. My current game (dueling AARs at the WitpAE forums) has reached February 25th 1942 we have a couple of important events behind... No big battles yet but some important ships sunk. Map-wise I'm about to begin my Phase 2 invasions while I already have all the more than vital oil fields and refineries. I'm expecting to finish the "mop-up" in schedule, and due to some recent events I dont think the Allies will intervene much any more.

So the question goes, anyone here interested in reading another WitpAE PBEM AAR here? I might not update it every turn, but I could first do a 10 or so post long summary of what has happened so far and situational analysis of the current situation - I'll have to do one any way so I might as well post it here and over at the witpae forums aar.

I really enjoyed the last one, even if I didn't post much, so do whatever you feel like.
