Operation WALTZ, BORN AGAIN and TREMOR?
Definitely.

March 20th

Just one name for the whole operation?  :)

Whatever it will be christened, it was kickstarted today. First troops aboard ships on their way to Balikbapan, and first troops start loading at Singapore. The first wave will see the HQ of the 25th Army land with 36,000 troops on the northern coast of Java, with another wave of 4,000 men landing between these units and Batavia.

A squadron of bombers was transferred to Palembang - they will support the landings. Reconnaissance squadrons will tomorrow photograph both beaches. Carrier Division II is tomorrow afternoon at Hong Kong, where it will refuel before heading South to support the operation. Aboard it, Vice Admiral Nagumo is given orders to break through to the Indian Ocean to wreak havoc among the fleeing enemy, or his reinforcements.

Quiet day again, SB-2s try their luck again in China, meet 20 Ki-27s, and lose half of their numbers.

Theres another offensive going on in China, the Chinese offensive to South West flank was stopped month ago, now reinforcing divisions from Chenghow are going to cut off about a whole Army's worth of yellow men. They are entrenched, but they have no place to run.

Why do we need a single name anyway? I really cannot think of anything cool enough. Although... We are invading the Dutch Indies.

Wooden Boot

Boot? Das boot? I like it.

March 21st and 22nd

Very boring days again. The landing zones and nearby areas have been photographed several times over from different directions(and with diversion targets), and it looks like the Enemy his concentrating his forces to Soerebaja. The port is also reported to have a CVE and about 40 ships... I dont know how FOW it is but they definately have something big there. One of the battleship squadron(Ise and Mutsu) is tasked to directly escort the invasion fleet, while the other(Fuso and Yamashiro) escort the carriers.

A squad of G4Ms moved to Singapore, though Soerebaja is out of their range. The invasion beaches however are within range so carriers are not the only ones able to provide air support.

D-day is the 25th.

Wow, getting one more naval victories in addition to landing would be great!

Is there a game mechanic to capture a ship?

The crew rather scuttle their ship!

Though agreed, being able to capture some small, lone ships with little to no defensive means would be plausible. Wether they would actually be of any use(especially as they often have short range and would possibly be far, far from friendly bases with fuel) is a different question...

I changed the name a little, now its Wood Boot. Japanese submarines might as well be wooden, thats why theres none taking part to this one.  :P

Ships taking part:

CV Kaga, Junyo
CVL Zuiho, Shoho
CVE Hosho
BB Yamashiro, Fuso, Mutsu, Ise
CA Ashigara, Kumano, Haguro, Nachi, Aoba, Maya

11 x CL light cruisers
48 x DD destroyers
10 x AO oilers
approx 30 x smaller war ships(ASW, patrol, torpedo ships etc)
approx 120 x cargo ships, including some purpose-built Naval transports and landing motherships.

March 23rd

PT boats near Oosthaven cleared out by a destroyer sweep... And thats it. Allies counter attack north of Moulmein, losing 6500 to 1000 Japanese. Now 2 days' battles losses are 4800 Japanese to 7000 Allied.

The CVE has disappeared from Soerebaja, probably a misreport. Damn.  :)

March 24th

Game is on!

Today our DDs tangle with the PT boats, before arriving to Oosthaven. They fight 3 times, only hit is on a PT boat. Zeroes sweep Soerebaja, meet CW-21s Demons and shoot one down....

The invasion fleet's main body will be spotted tomorrow if it isnt already. CarDiv III departs from Singapore, 2 cruiser squadrons are left in the reserve to go in once needed or other units need to refuel/rearm.

What could they possibly misreport as a carrier?

Ask the pilot...

March 25th

Not a good start. Balikpapan invasion force gets attacked by 12 Vildebeests, and 12 more in the afternoon. Why do I even bother making modern attack aircraft? Stringbag biplanes just slaughtered an escort destroyer and 5 transports. With 500lbs(240kg) bombs. AAA fire caught just 1 of them.

In the main force, a cargo ship with a full armoured regiment collides another and gets huge floatation damage. Thanks to that incident, their speed is slowed down and the D-day is delayed to early hours 27th.

At least the advance is in perfect formation and looks nice, battleships and cruisers ahead with the transports, carriers behind.
