An outside village/kingdom where you send the monster to raid and loot for you, making it a major source of income.

If a remake is made, it better as  hell not be made in ascii. Most of the enjoyment to be had in DK was how damn funny it was, and just couldn't be conveyed properly with @'s and r's.

Lies and slander! ASCII would work just fine, and do well enough for humor. Plus be considerably less effort to actually make. Let he who slanders ASCII be the first to provide art resources :P

Personally, I'd care more about the gameplay than the fluff, anyway. I didn't play Dungeon Keeper for the jokes.

This is something I've wanted for a long while. I think the same mechanics as the first game with a few of the best bits from the second would be a good idea; having monsters dazed for a couple of seconds when you drop them as a perfect example.

I even made plans for my own similar game but I haven't done any serious programming for a long time and I was only ever a novice to begin with.

Edit to add: Another Dungeon Keeper fan clone

opendungeons got a ai running but ill give you better info in a second

edit: alright from what i seen they don't have all of the features yet but your minions can mine, fight, and claim and die but they really don't got much in there yet. the ai works but from what i seen they can only fight, multiplayer works though XD

I haven't played dungeon keeper but this sounds a bit similiar to what you're looking for. It's just a flash game though.

http://keeper.lubie.org/html/dk_keeperfx.php this from the same site is a good one too (but its more of an .exe hack to fix bugs and add new functionality so if you don't like that kind of thing i'd recommend you wait till one of the remakes gets finished)
