Square Tiles
« on: January 31, 2011, 04:02:51 am »

If I change the size in the init file to a square (600x600 for example) will the game still work? In the art folder the supported fonts seem to come in only three sizes and I don't want to break anything. I don't really get how all this works tbh, but I'd really like square tiles because I think it'd look neater.

Download the Lazy Newb Pack and switch to one of the graphics packs in that. Easiest way to get !square! pixels. :)

I am going to copy the chicken entry and rename everything chocobo and make it 100x the size of a normal chicken and make it rideable.  Too bad our dwarves probably wont ride them. >_>

Tilesets go in Dwarf Fortress/data/art, and you can tell the game which one to use in Dwarf Fortress/data/init/init.txt using the filename of the set you want. There is enormous selection of tilesets available at http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Tileset_repository on the Wiki. When you find one you like, save the image to your art folder and update your init file to specify it. Some tilesets are rectangular and some are square; it's up to personal preference.

Yeah, I tried using that but my game became all fuzzy. I gave up and reverted to the original settings, before I forgot what the original settings were.
