Minor AI hole
« on: April 01, 2008, 09:32:00 pm »

I've found a hole in the AI. I had a goblin siege show up. Normally they charge into my trapped corridor, lose a few to the traps, and decide to flee. However, this time I'd blocked their escape with some floodgates, so they milled around without much clue what to do (a few got nailed by the traps a bit more). They had no path out of their current situation - the floodgates blocked one end of the fort, and the other end was a forbidden door.

Then I un-forbid the door. Immediately the goblins charged into the traps, presumably trying to reach the door and freedom. Naturally they didn't stand a chance against my traps. Spared me the bother of figuring out what to do with a dozen unrestrained marksgoblins, let me tell you.

It seems to me that goblins should rather avoid that which caused them to want to flee, than run through it to obtain freedom. I'm guessing the current behavior arises because the goblins aren't scared of particular things, but rather run off once they've lost a certain portion of their force.
