Ability to change the size of the world past 257 by 257?

I dream of a Extremly large world that is 500 By 500, Yet it doesn't let me change it past 257 in the custum world... Is there any possible way to do this or is my dream doomed to fail?

Make you could attempt to manually change it in the world_gen.txt file and then gen the world. I've never heard of it being done but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

you may change in world_gen.txt to any arbitrary demension. but when you gen a new world, it just bunces back to the nearest supported demension eg. 33x33 257x257.

edit:yes i dreamed that too. but even if you could, too large a world mean very low FPS, thus only adventure mode is practically playable

I thought the size of the world only slowed down things like generating the map and sucked up hard drive space. In fortress mode, the rest of the world is effectively in stasis.

the rest of the world is still alive and data being calculated n' processed during fort play, they just dont show.
