There was an old game, called "Wolf" I think. You had to play as a wolf, you could join packs, you had to avoid hunters

I don't have any links on-hand, but "Wolf" came first and "Lion" came later.  While they are essentially the same game in terms of what they simulate, "Lion" is more technically advanced.

He already got a link to Wolf, and Lion is in the related games section. He also already has both the games in Robinson's Requiem, he said in the OP.

EDIT: Because I sounded like a dick before I changed it.

That's nice. A lot of people were turned off by it because it was a technically poor game, so I thought it was worthwhile to point out the better sequel.

I've been tinkering around with this Boomtown game for a few hours now and I like it, but I can never get very far because of what appears to be a bug. Now and then I'll finish a month in my shelter and when the next month starts, I'm in "desolation" surrounded by "desolation" with nothing but "desolation" in every direction. It seems the map resets somehow and clears out everything, leaving me to die. I can't find a single save file to copy and backup so I can save scum in case it happens. Anyone have a fix for this? It's a shame I can't really get into the game.

EDIT: Holy crap, this game is buggy as hell. When I load a saved game, all my fuel and most of my food is gone. Every time. Anyone have a copy that isn't so glitchy? At least I figured out how to save scum...

EDIT 2: Make that most of my supplies except for water and a couple other things that disappear when I load a saved game. Phooey.

That's been my experience as well. I'm wondering if it's some sort of copy protection gone bad. Someone thought they cracked it, but didn't play long enough to realize they'd just screwed it up.

I believe I managed to get past it once, long ago, but I don't remember how.

I'm currently scouring the internet for a functioning copy. I can see plenty of discussion that demonstrates that people have gotten past the first few turns without trouble, but it's the same copy everywhere (with the saved game "MAX" still left on the list) and no matter how many times I try with all different settings, I can't get past that stupid bug where the whole map gets cleared out and then you die.

My copy of it isn't doing it, though I think I remember it doing it once.

How long have you played, and on what settings? Could I maybe give your copy a try and see if it's something I'm doing that's triggering it?

I just gave boomtown another try. I managed to play for a few months, but then severe cold came and I saw nothing but desolation and some crags. I have to wonder if that's the game's version of a blizzard? Afterwards, I ended up sleeping outside and had severe hardship, then it asked me for a map disk.

Is that similar to what's been happening to you, Sappho?

No, I'm getting something else. It's randomly deleting supplies from my shelter (most of them all at once) and then every once in a while I'll go to sleep in the shelter and the next month when I start my turn, I'm outside in the middle of desolation and the entire map is cleared. Nothing to do, nowhere to go, and then I die. I heard about this map disk thing though. I think I saw a fix for it on another forum but I don't remember where.

I can't say I've ever had the supply deletion problem. I know sometimes you can have events that will destroy one or two, but I've never had them all go at once. (Most recent was a problem where I lost all my water. Around 400 units.)
