A while back, After embarking I had ordered four dogs, They had puppys so I thought "Oh, Ill make the dogs War dogs and there puppys pets!"

So I assumed that most of my dwarfs would have there own puppys. Then I looked on my Animals screen to find this:

Why is my Chef stealing all the puppys and claiming them as his own?, God knows they can't be stored all together within his 3x3 Room.

Is this regular?

If that dwarf is the only dwarf that has a special fondness for dogs, and you put them all up as pets for adoption, then yes.  Dwarves generally only adopt pets they especially like.

Can I borrow that chef? It might not want to keep the puppies for too long, only long enough. It could really help my fort along in the long run.

EDIT: Of course they can fit in his room! Dwarves know how to stack things efficiently my dear friend. I bet interesting mood results would happen if you magma the room with most of the aminals in it.
