As I can confirm. Seriously, Some people simply aren't interested in either.

Those are the people who will have the most success in their education.
tell that to my alcoholic/stoner friends who always get higher gpas than me and are currently lined up for far better careers

GamerKnight, while I can see where you're going with this... I think you are being a little too typical. I do know quite a few guys that you describe, but I do know a few who are there just to get on the rails for a better job. Also, saying "all men go to college go to college for booze and sex" will get refuted hard by a bunch of personal experiences. We are, after all, on a forum for an ASCII sim / strategy game.  8)

The biological imperative to... pursue 'pleasure' for ones self if undeniable. This usually takes the form of getting laid.

You got the definition of the 'Pleasure principle' quite wrong.
The libido is only one of the many aspects the 'Id' part of your psyche, which is trying to get sastisfied by urging your 'Ego'.
Furthermore you libido can not only be satisfied by the fleshly act, but may as well fulfillment by sublimation.
Therefore your libidual energy may find release in mental effort or different kinds of accepted social behaviour (culture, religion, science).
It is said that the all achievements in any of those fields, are an effect of sublimation.

Lastly I'd like to mention that the 'Pleasure principle' underlies the 'Reality principle', which can postpone or diminish your search for any form of pleasure.
A strong 'Ego' will not succumb to the primitive drives of the 'Id'.

Vector, stop enabling him, even if it is funny.

I can safely say when I was back in high school there were a lot of guys driven primarily by biological desires. But then there were some like me and my "clique" who just didn't care and would rather talk to each other and slam on their keyboards all day long. Assuming every person in a broad demographic follows a specific mindset is naive.

I've been reading through four pages of derail and I hardly remember what the original topic was.

I'm not trying to... sorry.  However, I can't help but feel that true enablement would entail just being quiet and letting him say whatever he likes.

Unless you can find me suitable equations for human sexuality and are willing to admit that you're establishing theory based on a subset of observable data, rather than fact, I'd leave the science to the scientists.

Sure, perhaps most men--or even just a vocal subset--share these traits, but I'm not just going to lie down and listen as we sit around saying that all do.

Why fall back on these unenlightened generalizations, when we can look to the core of the issue and become wise--or at least wiser?

The hydrogen atom analogy is actually pretty useful in working this out.  Hydrogen atoms are all basically the same, so you don't need to weigh very many.  Human beings, on the other hand, are all different.

Sex is just a thing. There are people who simply are not interested in sex or for some other reason don't want it. Some may want pleasures for the mind. Puzzles, quizzes, artwork, music. Sex can be large but... Why let it control you, I mean, when I get to be legal I wouldn't go and do something. Why wait for sex when you can occupy time with more important things?

If you have no sex drive whatsoever, there's something wrong with your hormonal balance. Which means your endocrine system isn't working right, so you should have a doctor check it out before it gets worse.

Hey, I have sex drive but I choose to suppress it. It doesn't help that whenever I have a crush its like "Woa Woa no. No.Thats wrong and you should not even think about that. Ever again."

Anyway : the answer is : they fear it will be boring.
Getting wasted = fun, parties, alcopop, easy girl, easy mens, youngness ....
Not getting wasted = boring poeple, oldness, no flirt....
So poeple that drink are obviously superior to poeple that doesn't.
Because TV said so.

But the contrary is of course true: drinking beer = silliness, boring party poeple,....
Not getting drunk = clever poeple, restraint, really fun discussion,...
So poeple that don't drink are obviously superior to poeple that does.

I got to both (so I'm obviously superior to everyone who don't).

Anyway, stereotype say that student drink alcohol and stereotype make poeple fell safe. "After all, if we're bored we can always get drunk".
Don't mistake with stress relief by drinking that is the mofo of some students . (And no, I'm no judging that either).
2 tips for you (or rather to other people because you already know this): Find better people to drink with and don't get too wasted. Boring people are boring no matter how much ethanol you poor down their digestive track. But while you're right in saying that interesting people don't need alcohol to be interesting, a bit of alcohol will help to relax tension and makes it easier to have a fun time with a group of people that, for example, don't know each other well yet. Of course this is as much a plea against beer-centric parties (or should I say booze-centric parties?), because they usually spot boring people and end up in a rush to get wasted to compensate for that. And with this we get to the problem: People that either are boring or fear they are boring think alcohol is going to solve that. While alcohol is a good solvent, it doesn't quite help here...

Repressing feelings... Is that a good idea? I understand not acting on every momentary crush, but not even considering them and thinking about whether it could be a good idea? /dederail
