Tim -> time

The beginning of the myth, which begets sea and is from the sea, which forms its own country

(no idea on h1estesmi)

I'm not sure about the next piece, either, but we need to again notice the "misspelling"--berthing-place, much like birthing-place, which establishes the duality and similarity of life and death a second time.

Since the OP said this is a love story, I would say that the last part is about a certain place within the land of the two lovers."t'hie'thim" Seems like a complicated version of them, so I imagine he's saying we see them at the birthing place or possibly a hospital.

See, I see berthing place in terms of "a shelter at land out of the sea."  I think that's why he want with the dominant "berthing" spelling rather than "birthing."  I'm also guessing that this is a historical piece based on my knowledge of the author, though I'm not certain.

(... Guilty love: post-modernism)

The problem here is that it's not clever, it's simply gibberish which vaguely resembles something clever.

If you're right on the translation, I'd say 'h1estesmi' is the name of the country.

Dunno, I actually think it's pretty clever.  To really pull it off, though, I think he should work some more on other projects.

Meh.  We don't have to be so mean to him, you know.  Talking about spitting in books and so on just seems ridiculous.

Maybe.  My suspicion is that it's perfectly clear in a language I don't speak.  The English is all pretty obvious, but the other stuff is problematic simply because I don't have the right background =/

I'm not being mean, just honest. This style of writing he's using seems to have no purpose other than to be obtuse and esoteric. It's fine, I guess, if you want your book to be impenetrable to most people. It seems like it's trying far too hard to be clever though, to the point where it becomes more work to read the words than any book has a right to be. Most people read books to relax, after all, and be entertained.

Anyway, I'm really not trying to be mean as I said, just giving my honest opinion. He's free to write whatever he wants, I'm certainly not one to judge having gotten nothing of my own published (yet!)

Hmm... maybe.  I think that to be sure, as a mainstream paperback it's not going to go anywhere.  As a work of art, however?  Well, that's an entirely different thing.

House of Leaves has sold awfully well, hasn't it?

I don't know, I've never heard of it. I'm not saying he shouldn't do it though, honestly I don't care if he writes his book or not. I certainly won't be buying it though.

What are you talking about - sarcasm is the highest form of wit!

Oh, that's ironic.

It'd be ironic if I didn't intend it to be sarcastic.

It is how the entire book will be written. I don't know how long I'm gonna make it, though.

So it's not that we are reading this without context? Well I just lost all intrest...

Why this style, out of interest? Vector seems far more literature-minded than me so I trust her when she says books like this have enjoyed a lot of success in the past. But why? What's the overall meaning, the point?

Do people enjoy it because when they finally divine whatever obtuse meaning lies behind the gibberish they feel smart?
