Music Discovery
« on: January 29, 2011, 12:40:21 pm »

Post links to songs.  Video or not, doesn't matter.  Artist, title, and genre are required information, and should otherwise be generally concise.  Thread isn't meant for music discussion so much as a place to pick up random music recommendations when you feel like hearing something new.

I'll get it rolling with 3 power metal songs.  One negative.  One positive.  One just plain awesome.

After Forever - Beautiful Emptiness

Ayreon - Confrontation

van Canto - Fear of the Dark

Israeli-born singer sings about happiness, but you'd never guess that:
Yasmin Levy - La Alegria

Get all mystical and cathartic with this duo from Australia:

Listen to a piece from the soundtrack from Le Professionnel by the master of electronica:
Ennio Morricone - Chi Mai

And some charming indie pop to close the list:

Revamp - Million

Another power metal song.  New band from my favorite female singer.  This is possibly the most ass-kickingly motivational song I know.  It describes so perfectly how easy it is to get hung up on so many things while time and opportunities pass all the while.  I get emotional over it, because it's so relevant to where I am in life today.

With one foot still in the past
With the other far ahead
In between the times go fast
Chase your life while living it

She sings in Judaeo-Spanish right? They had her in the news a while ago.

She most certainly does NOT sing about happiness. Whoever told you that lied to you. She sings about a lost love or somesuch
Roughly:

Ay, ay, ay... ay ay ay... (ow ow ow, ow ow ow)
Bebo y bebo y bebo   (I drink)
para olvidarte (to forget you)
Yo Duermo y duermo y duermo (I sleep and I sleep and I sleep
Pa no pensar... (To not think)

Damn world

Vivir para pagar por este (live to pay for -didn't understand this bit-. I think she says "pay for this corpse and love you, or somesuch)
Sueltame (release me)
ayayay, ayayay, ayayay (owowow owowow owowowow
aah, aah aah, ay (aah, aah, aah ow)
(bis)

and so on.

(Blah, I hate this pseudoandalusian music)

La alegria = Happiness. No?
And of course it's more about the lack of said happines. What I meant is that the title is rather misleading.

If it's of any consolation I wish we had learned German -or any other major language- in high school instead of Basque (or at least, instead of investing so many school hours in it. Really, 4 hours a week? I'm ok with it as a subject, but I think it's ridiculous to give it such importance.)
