My friendly king
« on: January 29, 2011, 09:57:16 am »

A monarch has just arrived in Crystalhomes. But he is so friendly that he doesn't dare entering the fort, probably because his feet are dirty or something. He just stands there, on the edge of the map, all by himself. He doesn't appear on the nobles screen or as a citzen on the unit list, instead he is marked "friendly" there.

I've tried searching for this problem on the forum, but all threads I found were rather old or useless but funny. So, is there something I can do in order to make my king take residence properly?

non-dwarven kings just sit there as "friendly" and will probably be killed in the next attack you get.
if it's and Elf, that could be a reincarnation of Cacame. If human, well, a new guy.

So who is it? Try going into "Description"

He is a dwarf. If he was a Cacame-reincarnation, I would've laughed and built him a shrine. (or slab)

edit: read some more about it, seems like this problem is currently unresolved. Thank you anyway, compadres.

I had that problem once, due to a brain fart. Make sure he has a open pathway to enter the fort.
When I discovered a locked door was preventing entry, this was not a happy time

If you can't bring the king to the fort...

Bring the fort to the king.

Bring the fort to the king.

"Excuse me, milord, but would you step aside for just a second? All these dwarves here, they are itching to build you a roof and relocate our glorious fortress so you don't have to walk all the way to our bloody entrance... but.. uhm... could you lift your left foot, please? Urist McEngraver is trying to smooth your restroom, milord."

You could use Runesmith to move him.

I think the problem is that he's not registered as a member of the map.
If so then nothing will help.

Try this: assign him engraving/stone smoothing labor and designate it right to the side of him. if he doesn't go... then you're stuck.
Actually, you probably won't be able to assign him the labor. Try going to his thoughts-feelings page from the U-menu. probably no dice.

You can make a friendly unit a citizen by using this, DFusion
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=69682.0

I've used it many times before on dead worlds to make a multicultural fort of all races with no problems. I had to reuse it every time I loaded DF though.

Thanks for that tip. I am too stupid to get it to work, though. I don't know which plugin of Dfusion to use and how. I tried the friendship plugin, with the cursor on the soon-to-be-king, nothing. I then tried various other plugins which sounded like it could have the desired effect, but nothing.

Would you care to explain how to do the feat, please?  ???

Basically it should already be set up to make friendly dwarfs into citizens. So open your world and pause. Run the thing type 3 enter, and wait. It should take awhile, a bunch of things will go across the screen and it should go back to the original options after that. Then it should be done. If that doesn't work I got no clue how to fix it.
