So please explain how you have used fire in adventure mode.

Some examples (all true):

• I used fire and an "island" in a murky pool to decimate a camp using no weapons at all (I had one equipped but had no combat reports/logs )
• I took a piece of coal from a fort of mine, lit a tree, put the coal next to it, took it with me about 40 steps (started "melting" after about 20), set it down, got into some water, stopped bleeding, got it back, and quick-travelled to a night creature lair. *throw* "hey look your door's on fire.. and you got this molten copper on your leg... and you're on fire..." yeah I won.
• Dragon+coal=fun. 'Nuff said.

I tried to melt a hippo. It melted the fat off, bunt it a little, then it gored literally seven shades of shit out of me. Then I set everything round me on fire and melted to death. Sod.

After a raid on a lair or bandit camp, I cremate everyone involved, giving allies and enemies a separate pyre.

Unfortunately, the stuff rarely catches on fire and usually just wears down to nothing, if I can get it to do anything at all.

I have had a rather difficult time setting victims on fire.  My best attempt was while sneaking into a bandit camp.  I lit a nearby tree on fire and watched the goon standing next to it die.  Some creatures will even walk through burning squares.

I do not believe they can, unless you do something to make them think otherwise. Like setting them on fire.
