Taurine's good for your liver. High doses when you're not used to it also cause a mild buzz. It's also essential for cats, as they go blind without it.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

They are a good mood lightener, so I enjoy them too.
Makes you feel alive.

Current favorite: Monster Ripper.
At least I can pretend I'm drinking something rudimentarily healthy that way.

I've ordered one of each kind of the Rockstar energy drink today.
Let's see how good they are.

I just wish our producers were that creative with new flavors...

I drink humongous ammounts of bewerages with caffeine, most often in the form of pepsi max (can easily do more than 1l in a day) and, since last year, Argentinian mate. When I'm around I do drink coffee, normaly latte and sugarless.

One thing that makes them bad for you is the high volume of certain vitamins. They are good for you up to a point, but after that your body has to get rid of them and it causes your liver and kidneys to overwork. This is made worse because people are often dehydrated as well and that affects the strain on your liver and kidneys when expelling waste from your blood stream.

You probably should avoid drinking more than one a day, and make sure you also drink plenty of water when you do.

They also cost a lot of money. I used to spend over $200 a month on caffeine between energy drinks and code red. Now I spend less than $20 by limiting myself to no more than 2 soda a day supplemented with ice tea. Not only does it cost less, but I feel better and I no longer urinate brown chemical smelling stuff.

Actually, drinking copious amounts of water revitalizes me. I only drink water anyway. Sometimes I'll have a swig of cola and such if my mouth tastes like piss from something nasty I ate (Gone off food, for example).

Up until about 3 years ago, all I drank was cola. I'm talking 2 liter bottles a day. Now I overly sensetive teeth and I get the shakes once in a while.

Coke. Don't do it. Energy drinks, too, I guess.

Well, curiously enough I drink no water. I drink chilled barley tea instead, and I'm never found without a bottle of it in my hand. It's incredibly refreshing, and in my opinion tastes much better than water.

I also drink hot black teas, and I consume energy drinks (taste mostly, then kick) and soft drinks from time to time as I said earlier.

Mugicha!

You have good taste.  I used to drink that a lot.

I'm using up the last of my caffeinated tea and then probably not drinking/buying any more.  Switching to garlic tea because it's cheaper and I really don't want the incentive to sleep three hours a night, just because I can be reasonably awake with a cup of hot tea in the morning.

Mostly, I drink water.  Some of my liquid is from fruit.  I don't have to drink as much as most people because I consume almost no salt or diuretics, I think, though I still try for 6-8 glasses a day in conjunction with whatever I'm getting from my food.

Energy drinks don't do anything for me. I once had 6 Red Bulls and went to bed an hour later, fell asleep before my head hit the pillow. Then again, I don't get much from coffee either, but I do drink it because I like the taste.

As for my liquids input, it's mostly water, apple juice and mineral water.

Yeah, soda is terrible stuff.

I quit drinking it regularly when I was 13.  I was a sprinter in track, and got horrible stitches every day in practice.  Someone told me to avoid caffiene and eat a banana.  Never had that problem again.  Cleared it up instantly.  Avoided soda ever since.  I'll have one occassionally when eating at a restaurant or friend's house.  Otherwise, nothing but coffee and water.

This is probably why I've been able to work in at a desk for the last 4 years and gain little weight, while most everyone around me drinks nothing but soda and is constantly getting fatter and fatter.

Switching to garlic tea
I cannot fathom how that could possibly taste good. And I've never heard of barley tea...

Barley tea rocks. Try some. I sometimes mix it with green or corn tea.

I haven't tried it, but apparently it's good for a cold, and the garliciness would make a nice complement to the warmth.

Probs leaves your breath stinking though.

Not really.  I load that stuff up with a half-lemon and a spoonful of honey.  It's delicious, and the other flavors help take care of one's breath.

The biggest problem is probably all the sugar, as with sodas. An average energy drink has waaaay too much - like 13 teaspoons in a 16 ounce. Combined with roughly 4 times the caffeine of a soda plus all sorts of additives and it is not an attractive mix.

Regardless of it's chemical makeup though, I just cannot stand the taste myself except in rare exceptions (Blue Jolt). Give me a french vanilla any day.

Really the most important factor is moderation. Depending on the drink it ranges from about a weak cup of coffee (100 mg of caffeine) to approaching the medically recommended daily maximum (doctors suggest keeping it under 400 mg) per single drink!

Cola is actually pretty low in caffeine compared to coffee, tea, or any energy drink on market.
