This is so awesome.

How do you get the magma up that far?

Pumpstack of doom, probably.  Maybe helped by a surface volcano, that should save a metric buttload of work.

Overkill much?

There is no overkill, just results exceeding expectations.

There is one flaw with this.
What if a bunch of renegade magmamen decide to knock on your door?

He mentioned a brook.  Maybe there could be an added central cistern with water that can go to any of the areas of effect and obsidianize them for such cases?

IIRC from the Paradox Forums it was a pump stack about 120 Z levels high powered by waterwheels. You'll have to check with him though.

A 137-level dual-width pump-stack, powered by an 84-Waterwheel power station.

Do you want the save? DF 31.18, Mayday, no mods.

Creatures can't get through a pump, and building destroyers can't attack constructions that are above them. Should be safe enough. The whole pump-stack is sealed in with masonry anyway.

I'm with Namfauk,  You should build cisterns of water above that so you can drop it through the open magma weapon and instantly turn anything below into rock.

Having the save would be awesome. I would love to try it out

Here's the save: http://rapidshare.com/files/445109439/region99.rar

It's DF v31.18, Mayday, no mods.

Here's a few screen-shots from Overseer:

A cut-away view of the whole embark. The pump-stack is on the left, staircase on the right:

A front elevation of the fort, looking up-slope from the river-bank:

A rear 3/4 down-shot, showing the Space Elevator feeding magma into the roof-top reservoir tank:

Front 3/4 angle-on:

And some StoneSense screenies; the fortified roof-top:

... and the Magma pans just below the roof:

... targetted in a cluster pattern around my entrance:

... and a closer view of the entrance, with my Dodge-Em trap just visible:

What will you do next? Crush hell under a giant obsidian war hammer?

Hey!  I was thinking about doing that....

Creatures can get through a pump. I had a flooding trap once, and not long after I activated it, I found turtles and other fish in the moat I just filled.

Vermin != creatures. Teleporting decorations don't count as real creatures.
