hospital problems
« on: January 28, 2011, 05:49:52 pm »

one of my militia was wounded when fighting a goblin thief and has been just laying around with no one helping him even though I have a hospital and I have even removed some people from any other jobs and they just st around doing nothing. I've had this happen before at this fortress to a farmer who was at the wrong place and the wrong time :-\

OK, I have to reload the save.
There was a bit of a problem regarding flashfreezing, a ballistae, and a barrel of dwarven ale. Gonna fix it up.

Do you have a chief medical dwarf noble? If so, does he dislike helping people (that would make him very slow to do medical labors and bring food/water)? Is your chief medical dwarf have a low skill in diagnose (he may not think anything is wrong; try a localized cave-in on top of the dwarf if this is the case, to force a new diagnosis)? Are you sure the dwarf has not already been treated and is simply resting, or that you have the materials to treat the wound in the first place (splints for broken bones, thread for suturing, soap for cleaning infections optional)? If he has been treated, does he have motor nerve damage preventing him from standing?

he has been wounded outside the fortress and no one is taking him inside the fort. I have plenty of supplies and he has gotten no diagnosis from my chief medical dwarf or any other dwarves.

I have had this, if he is not currently in the military, force him into active service, if he is in the military, force him out and back into service.  That is what fixed it for me, not sure why.

I think it forces them to take a look at their personal job list, or clears out whatever it is that they (weren't) doing instead of diagnosing. You get something similar if nobody's coming to the trade depot and you toggle the trader-calling options a few times.

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

I tried removing him and then adding him again and my chief medical dwarf (who has no other jobs) still won't help him. :(

Is the afflicted dwarf still outside? I'm not sure if they'll get diagnosed if they're outside the hospital zone.

Check if there are enough dwarves with Recover Wounded as an active labour. If there's no reason the affected dwarf should be ignored, try building a bed underneath them (you'll need a roof over it first) and deconstructing it. Sometimes it works.

What sort of injuries does the dwarf have, just out of curiosity?

Is he outside a burrow, if you have them. If not, make sure he is accessable

Should you fail to comply, strict !!disciplinary actions!! will be taken. Also, we feel we should remind you that one of the "criminals" on your list is the chief medical dwarf. If he ends up too badly injured to do his job, you will be fired. Out of a magma cannon.
Sincerely,
The Administration

even more annoying is the fact that he has died because of this and they aren't even taking his to a coffin. :(

Using my limited DF experience, I have several suggestions.

Assuming you have already built a burial receptacle (coffin), view it using "q", and make sure "use for burial", or whatever it says, is set to Y.

Failing that, play around with the "o" (orders) menu.

I think you just put the order to no dwarves go outside. That may be the problem. Try disabling it so your Chief Medical Dwarf can go outside.

Or him probably has nerve problems.
Also seems like soldiers stay on the dead body, standing there. You have to set the military orders(k) off so they go away.
Some soldiers have the job 'Soldier(cannot follow orders)'.Maybe its it.
Or maybe your Chief Medical Dwarf is just on break.

I got that problem fixed.  I had forgotten to set it  burial with 'q' key.

Also I have problem where I keep getting spammed with this message "Urist McDirty cancels clean self: Area Inaccessible" with a bunch of different dorfs in my fort.

That's because you have soap sitting somewhere. Soap is currently bugged like that. The way around it is to make sure all your soap is in your hospital, so the soap won't trigger the dwarves trying to clean themselves. Any soap outside your hospital should be forbidden.
