One example I can think of that involved two disparate groups fighting a third is World War 2 China. The Nationalists decided to try to crush the Communists while both were still fighting the Japanese invasion. As a result many Chinese saw the Nationalists's choice in an extremely unfavorable way and started to support the Communists. I've read people say if the Nationalists had waited until after the eventual defeat of the Japanese that the Communists would have had a more difficult fight after the war against the Japanese was over.

There are probably other examples that didn't turn out that way, but maybe the people who lean towards the rebel side in Syria will be influenced by the extremist Islamists' choice to fight against other rebel groups well before the war is over.

According to BBC breaking news turkey states it has shot down a syrian aircraft (helicopter?) after it violated it's airspace.

That's, kinda a old red line. It was literally a central tenet of the decision to strike Syria. And unlike Syria, Israel will be enforcing this one.

Also, NY POOOST. That is a terrible Newspaper. Please find a different one.

Anyway, the UN report is out on Syria.

Saying what we did know. (Sarin, launched by Ground to ground rocket's) and surprisingly, what we didn't. The rockets were launched from an unidentified location to the Northwest (Acording the the NY times, a government military complex).

Rockets used were an A14 artillery rocket with Cyrillic markings, and several unidentified rockets.

That does not look good for the Russian Federation or the Syrian government. Of course, the rockets could be very old and may date back to a time when a different Russian government (Soviet or Yeltsin-era) sent arms to Syria. Given that the Russians are known to be supplying arms to the Syrians on a regular basis, however, that sounds unlikely.

While the US was quick to assert they are sure Syrian government launched the rockets  - UN report on which they are basing says the rockets "could be original or improvised". The question why only civilians but no rebel fighters were reported injured by that gas if it was supposedly launched by government forces also remains.

By the way - it was not yet mentioned in this thread that an expert on Syria Elizabeth O’Bagy who was cited by McCain and John Kerry fabricated her Ph.D. degree and had financial connections with Syrian rebel groups.

RT.com - because some relevant information is not reported in most western newspapers at all.

RT are good for getting a better picture on an event or situation, but only when used in combination with Western sources. They are just as biased, just in another direction.

The actual report, for those that prefer to form their own opinions rather than absorb that of someone else.

The full quote of what RT decided to latch on to (on the end of appendix 5):
Quote
Impact Site Number 1
The munition linked to this impact site, by observed and measured characteristics, indicatively matches one of the variants of the M14 artillery rocket, with either an original or an improvised warhead (not observed at the impact site).
Only the rocket engine was found, so they cannot say anything definite about the warhead. The engine matches that of a rocket from a BM-14 launcher, splurged across the region by the USSR in the 60's and also produced by China. That the engine originates from Russia/USSR doesn't say much, the engine and warhead are individual components.

The second rocket type they describe is more of an odd job.

Speaking of Iran, interesting overtures from the new president there.
http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/09/18/20561148-irans-president-rouhani-we-will-never-develop-nuclear-weapons?lite

Quote
On Monday, the new president said the Revolutionary Guards — who report to Khamenei and have been accused of backing hard-liners — should stay out of politics. The next day, Khamenei was quoted on state TV as saying, "It is not necessary for the Guards to have activities in the political field."

Quote
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told NBC News on Wednesday that his administration will never develop nuclear weapons and that he has full authority to make a deal with the West on the disputed atomic program.

The second bit can probably be considered more of the same; though much more explicit than past denials, and certainly ceding more ground.

But that first bit is quite interesting. It's my understanding that the Revolutionary Guard was basically responsible for backing the current situation in Iran; and now their leader is basically telling them to stay out of politics and that moderation is key.

He's just a weak appeaser the theocrats let into the Presidency because they realized the impending threat of revolution. After this term it'll be back to radical Islamists until the Iranians finally get the will to rise up and destroy the theocracy.
