Russian television has been reporting about the use of chemical weapons since March, long before any Western news reports. According to Russian news reports, the Syrian rebels use chemical weapons (homemade chloride gas and Sarin, which is supplied by Turkey) against civilians. There are several Russian journalists in Syria (some of them are attached to Syrian Army units), which interview civilians, doctors, army officers. They all state that rebels fire artillery shells loaded with chemical weapons at civilian areas controlled by the government forces.

I'm going to go ahead and say the Russian news reports are less than reliable.

Western television broadcasts news reports based on reports by Syrian opposition organizations, which doesn't make them more credible than Russian news reports.

I didn't say Western TV was reliable. I said Russian TV is not reliable, which is reasonable given the connections between Russia's government and al-Asad.

The really reliable stuff is the videos of the actual conflict, uncommented. Next step up from that is amateur and independent reporters, who mostly lack government bias.

I don't trust anyone in that conflict and think that Syria needs a permanent peacekeeping force instead of a goverment.

All "independent" reporters, whose footage can be seen on Western television are affiliated with the Syrian rebels in one way or another.
There is an information war going on, there are no unbiased sources.

Russian channels that broadcast inside Russia, such as Channel One Russia and Rossiya-1.

The only unbiased truth you'll get is by going there, and that's not particularly safe.

Unbiased truth cannot be acquired, as humans are biased themselves and will apply said bias to what they see first-hand. You gotta roll with what you're given, compare, contrast, and make your own conclusions.

Good point. Edit: Let me rephrase that to how they see their governments stances in instances such as this. Is it high on the list of grievances or is seen as an irrelevant bit of foreign policy? Does it affect the governments actions at all?

I'll dig up an older thread on necromancy, see the stances on it, and if then permissible dig or up or make a thread on Russia in general.

The few Newspapers that exist and are run by civilians are generally balanced. Though they are hard to get access to.

Yes and No. They do take a bigger slice of info from the rebels, but many will include what the government says as well.

In short, it's pretty hard to believe anyone.

Huge fucking explosion in Damascus.

Assad's Government is saying Israel is responsible, but then again, they'd probably say that no matter what.

AS always, first thigns first, what it hit?

Appears to be either a munitions dump, or research facility.

Second, who did it?

Possibly rebels, or Isreal. Depends on contents thereof.
