A poor girl is going to receive 100 lashes in the Maldives because of under-age sex charges.
Premarital sex charges. I really don't think Islamists care that much about age, given how much they push for child brides.

Fortunately, the government has stated opposition and she'll probably be fine if they change the law before she's 18.

Still, it's shit like this that makes part of me want the Maldives to sink beneath the waves all the faster.

'Non-lethal' Aid to Syrian Rebels

I find it hilarious how they are skirting the line with a technicality.  They won't have to spend their funds on food and medicine now that someone else is picking up on that tab, so more weapons anyways.

But yea... that is how it always works doesn't it?  Plus 'ensuring only the groups we like' get the aid...

Non-lethal aid also include stuff like communication gear that is directly helping the rebels to fight. Although at least for heavier gear (especially anti-air stuff), it makes sense note to flood an unstable hellhole with that.

Quick question, who would support heavier involvement by the West here? I'm thinking of everything short of a full-scale invasion, from intelligence and weapons to spec-ops and a no-fly zone.

Getting hot in Greece.

Blackwater (now known as Academi) has been hired to protect the government.
The weirdest part is, so far their only major role has been as the good guys. They've been hired because the police (or a large portion of them) can't be trusted, near as I can make out - the Blackwater mercs aren't actually likely to be up to their own plots to seize control and take over the government. Blackwater doesn't WANT to take over a government, that's a huge boon in their favour in this sort of situation...

Heavier involvement in Syria is vital at this point. The conflict is slowly turning into a three-way fight between Assad's loyalists, the FSA, and Al-Nusra. The latter two are technically allies, but the FSA wants a free and democratic state while Al-Nusra wants an Islamist and theocratic state. They've already started to run into conflict, and I think it is best if we support the FSA so they can deal with Al-Nusra when the time comes.

Well, considering it they are paying Blackwater... are they not? Is Greece even paying their police force?  I think that may have a huge effect on 'loyalty'.

How is Greece even getting the funds to pay Blackwater if they are so deep in the shitter anyways?

I guess there are many other factors that would influence the loyalty of the police since Greece is still their home and country...  So paid foreigners who don't care are the best bet I suppose.

As long as Golden Dawn membership is rampant amongst the Greek police, they can't be trusted.

dead silence around Greece news over here. I guess the situation in the homefront is delicate enough by itself.

In this case, i doubt it's worse then the alternative.

If we don't intervene things are just going to go like they did in Azawad and we'll end up fighting at least two Islamic insurgencies.
