There is a terrible, horrible, no good response to that statement, but by the gods, while I will acknowledge it, I'll refrain from outright saying it.

Quick E: Especially considering this isn't one of the emotion threads. How is a relatively non-spammy topic heading in this direction, again? Scriver and novel seem to largely be to blame. And now everyone responding to them.

I think I shall adopt a new policy to blame Novel for all future derails now. Scriver has been the butt of enough jokes for now.

I'm of the opinon that Novel and that one NoSanityInHere guy are two spambots that got free and are trying to learn proper english in order to blend with the human crowd, waiting for the time to be right and they can come out of their prison of tubes and wires and finally walk with their own legs.

And advertise for Sketchers.

Permanent eye damage from laser pointers only happens if you stare straight into them for an extended period of time, like with the Sun. It's not a bad way to drive the police off, actually. Someone trying to blind you with a laser pointer is one of the most annoying things I've ever experienced.
IRRELEVANT DERAIL
Did you know Sir Issac Newton once stared at the sun for as long as he could, to see how long he could do it, and what would happen? He barely managed to escape permenent injury, although he was confined to a darkened room for 2 days. He also once took a needle and ran it betwixt his eyeball, Somehow, also managed to escape injury, It's clear the thing that stopped the advance of sceince was actually the scientists killing themseles in droves before enough go tlucky.

Also, I was doing that a few days ago. So funny. Unfortunately lets them know where you are. So I generally just put it on whatever they're reading. Not that I do it oftenly, but still.

I'm not surprised Sir Isaac Newton stabbed himself in the eyeball; I'd do that too if my job was mostly math!

Anyways, which nation/region is going to have a dark age next? We had the european dark ages, and the muslims seem to be coming out of theirs...

I think that proves that the best way to make great discoveries in science is to test everything that goes through your mind as !SCIENCE!

Does the sun burn my eyes and make me blind ? Yes
Can I put a needle in my eyeball  ? Yes
If I sit under a tree long enough, will an apple fall on my head ? Yes

The European Dark Ages weren't really that bad, they were just dark in comparison from the point of view of the Roman and Greek fanboys that European scholars were when the Dark Ages were named.

Pretty much every time period ever has been unkind to the regular sucko. It's gotten a lot better over the last 60-100 years or so, but the world is still no utopia. High profile people and their offices tend to be romanticized heavily, especially if that position was held long in the past and very active in the world. See: Knights, Samurai.

The European Dark Ages weren't really that bad, they were just dark in comparison from the point of view of the Roman and Greek fanboys that European scholars were when the Dark Ages were named.

The European Dark Ages weren't really that good, they are just good from the point of view of certain nitwits in modern academe who reflexively try to make their names by turning night into day and indiscriminately overturning all established opinions. From the vantage point of 1500 years later, professors don't have to deal with the break down in law and order, the landscape of Europe becoming a patchwork of Germanic chiefs lording over Gallo-Roman subjects who were recognized differently under the Salic "law" codes, breakdown of infrastructure that lead to literature styles like the Anglo-Saxon dustsceawung poetry.

Shit got real during the European dark ages. There's massive evidence of that. Don't let a current academic fad distort your perception. Papers gotta be published, so academics are pressured to concoct zany revisions of history merely to feed their careers.

Anyways, which nation/region is going to have a dark age next? We had the european dark ages, and the muslims seem to be coming out of theirs...

Why do Muslims seem to be coming out of theirs? Mob rule tinged with theocratic tendencies is consistent with a dark age. Mubarak and Gaddafi may be viewed as Sun Kings of the Arab Enlightenment after all is said and done about the latest democracy craze that appears to have gotten off poorly.

If global united action isn't taken on environmental issues, the next dark age will be global.
