No, the rise of Fascism came from the Germans being forced into economic annihilation and political humiliation due to the Treaty of Versailles, and Hitler capitalizing on the anger resultant with an convenient scapegoat in the Jews and main opposition in the Communists refusing to participate in the government. In such a situation it was easy for him to take power.

Err, You're neglecting the fact that the people who would eventually take power, the later fascists, known at the time as the Freikorps, got their start fighitng the Sparticists and communists, supposedly in the name of the government but launching a coup or two themselves. Wihtout the men who gave his movement the energy it needed to become a alternative to the democratic republic, and the ideals of, what was close enough to democracy(The republic didn't allow hitler's party ot use the radio, for example. Seems good in retrospect, but still, subversion of democracy). Without it, he's just a son of a plumber with some interesting ideas.

They went legitimate later on, but the fascists got ther start fighting communists in angry street battles, in the name of the government, supposedly. It started, and made the movement.

Yeah, I started seeing stories and some pretty cool pictures about the Egyptian black bloc a couple days ago.

My useless tangent observation:  black bloc is a horribly abused term.  Most people don't seem to understand what it really means.  It's a tactic developed for the purpose of protecting identities and escaping from authorities, that just happens to be primarily associated with insurrectionary anarchist protest.  It is not an ideology or political organization.  It's always weird to read links like those, because of the way people use the term as a formal noun the same way they'd use Al-Qaeda or The Tea Party.  The people in Egypt using this tactic aren't even necessarily the slightest bit anarchist.

It's mainly the economic crisis which caused extremism in many countries (not necessarily fascism, France went leftist for a few months, with the first holidays and such). The treaty of Versailles is more an anger matter than economic, as US paid for it.

I feel Black bloc is a bit of a RL version of Anonymous, and fight islamists instead of scientologists.

Forgive my ignorance, but didn't the Treaty of Versailles pretty much dropkick Germany in the economics?

It did. And once Germany was getting better (they eased up on the reparations eventually), the crash happened. That's some shitty luck they had there.

Big protests in Cairo again tonight, focused around the presidential palace. Live stream here, although it might be blocked outside Norway. The raw satellite uplinks that were so common in 2011 seem to be much rarer now.

Not me, I loves me some quality televised riot.
Protester weapon du jour seems to be green laser pointers, which is both friendlier and more sophisticated than the staple halfbrick.

Edit: Not taught at Cairo Police Academy: the lack of benefit in launching tear gas canisters upwind.

Oh yeah, riots can be entertaining though brutal but I've had enough of seeing people marching with signs/special costumes on and such. I've been watching it since january 2011 and the whole occupy thing and now I've had to stop watching Al-Jazeera as much because of it. Granted, these protests are important for raising awareness about political causes/issues, I'm just expressing my own selfish feelings about it.

Permanent eye damage from laser pointers only happens if you stare straight into them for an extended period of time, like with the Sun. It's not a bad way to drive the police off, actually. Someone trying to blind you with a laser pointer is one of the most annoying things I've ever experienced.
