Indeed. I wish world leaders would get the message that you can successfully deal with Islamist groups like Hamas by undermining their rhetoric through your actions, not validating it. They rarely change their extremist claims, so its not hard to make them look crazy and stupid in front of everyone if you just try.

If removing Hamas was their actual goal, then yes. But the pattern of actions indicates that the goal is displacing the Palestinians to make room for Jewish settlers. Israel has broken their pledges and violated the peace process in favor of settlement every single time.

And one day... in the far far off future, the Palastinians will return to their ancestral homeland, in the process 'displacing' the Jews.  And the cycle will begin anew.

From what i hear it didn't really work in Egypt.
They're busy curb stomping religious minorities and thinking about demolishing the Sphinx and Pyramids as "Pagan Idols".
Neither of those did anything (or could do) to annoy them but... yeah.

Yay for overscrupulous religious leaders.

Nadaka, that's true of the West Bank, but not so much for Gaza. After all, Israel removed their settlements from there a few years ago.

Oh, this is where the Israel/Palestine discussion is? I feel like the thread title should be changed to something more general.

NHBMECM2012... NHBMECMZOR? ... Noob Meccazor? There's got to be some kind of immaculately terrible Mortal Combat/Power Rangers/Quran crossover in that. The world's holy cities are actually sleeping zoids and transform to contest in the next round of mortal combat? I can... I can almost see it. It has a terrible majesty.

Watching a livestream from Gaza, and there is a constant, loud hum of drones in the air with an occasional explosion in the distance. Must be incredibly stressfull.

Okay, Hamas announced a ceasefire, and Israel pounded it until it resumed shooting rockets. It seems it's the second time this happen (although I'm not sure the first time was a real cease-fire or if they just stopped shooting for some other reason). Considering this whole she-bang was supposedly to stop Hamas from shooting rockets, Israel is now officially a douchebag.

It's like saying "Nothing fundamental has changed since the Iraq war except for the Arab Spring." It's undoubtably true, but remember: Political change is slow, and geopolitical change especially so.
