True, but it's arguable that there isn't the political will in Turkey to prosecute an offensive war, especially unilaterally.

A joint NATO operation, on the other hand...it's Game Over. (Although after Libya, there may not be much political will in NATO members either)

Well, it certainly won't be a Shi'ite state. Which means Iran is going to lose one of its few allies in the region. And Hezbollah is quite possibly fucked without a sponsor, which could lead to all sorts of !!FUN!! in Lebanon and potentially spill over into Israel if Hezbollah feels they need to construct a scenario that proves their value to Lebanon.

The rebels will surely win if they get sufficient air support. The question is how many unbombed buildings will be left in Syria when dust settles.

Ground troops are cheaper and less risky, from a macro standpoint. Losing a company of infantry is peanuts next to losing an aircraft in terms of dollar-cost. Although the Turkish Air Force is pretty damn big for a regional power (3rd largest in NATO, behind US and UK). The F-4s would likely have to provide the CAS. They don't really have good dedicated CAS platforms like the A-10 or attack helicopters. F-16s can be fitted for ground attack, but they work better as air superiority fighters.

And there's the question of civilians. Can't exactly zoom and bomb the living fuck out of Damascus.

Losing a company of infantry is more expensive than losing a plane from the popular support point of view, though.

Anyway, I'm kinda surprised that Turkey doesn't have attack helicopters. Still, they could at least cut the supply lines and destroy all the armour, right?

I hate the way they always seem to forget that these 'golden ages' were still very crappy. Also, anti-equality. grrrrrr!

Most 'golden ages' were crappy for most of the people. Most people just tend to forget thet they would likely not have been a lord or king, but a peasant or laborer.

Seriously: I doubt there's even one 'golden age' you'd rather live in than stay in this time. Anyone got an example to prove me wrong?
