In truth I'd rather force a ceasefire and peace talks rather than take sides on these wars.

How do you force a ceasefire that both sides adhere to... if at least one side has operated the whole time without 'foreign aid'?  Without sending in boots, nukes or giving immunity to past actions?

I never said anything about no boots. What I have in mind is a massive international peacekeeping force. Not that such a thing will get assembled, of course.

The Peacekeepers are pretty small and have this nasty habit of, instead of keeping the peace, setting up sex slavery rings in places where they are deployed. That such things have actually happened more than once massively increases how disturbing it is.

I seem to recall the UN Peacekeepers rounding up "persecuted peoples" and then letting in genocidal nuts with machetes to go to town in Serbia, Rwanda and Lebanon. About as ineffectual as it gets in addition to being corrupt.

So.... we want a UN 2.0?  I guess they'll do fine at first...

I think a UN 2.0 wouldn't be too bad an idea: The current UN is practically useless on many issues because of the way the security council is set up. As long as there's veto powers, Israel will not be forced to stop expanding its settlements, and the next Assad will be able to happily slaughter his people as long as he does it with Russian weapons. And with such a dysfunctional structure you're never going to get rid of these corruption/incompetence problems (that I've heard of for the first time here, but they sound horrible enough).

As long as there is no international court - corruption in all international bodies will be at least not less then the average corruption in constituent countries. And the US will never agree to be bound by any international court.

I'd prefer a UN-equivalent made up of the world's electoral democracies. That way we could make good decisions without having Russia and China screw everything up.

EDIT: Judge refuses to order Youtube to remove Innocence of Muslims trailer on the basis that the actor's lawsuit is unlikely to prevail.

UN-like without Russia and China is basically NATO. What would change if you add functions other than military cooperation to it but still have US refuse to be legally judgeable by it?

That's not true at all. NATO is purely military and doesn't include places like India, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, ect.

The UN has a massive scope in comparison. Its pretty much everything but military cooperation.

Legally judging the nations within it is kind of unnecessary, though. I'm talking about an open organization where the world's progressive states can coordinate and cooperate to better deprive the non-progressive nations of power and support their modernization.

Pressure can cause change. Just look at Iran's crumbling economy. That was caused by economic sanctions alone.

Good luck enforcing your will with the Russians and Chinese refusing to have anything to do with it.

Russia and China won't be happy if the US kicks them out of the (new) United Nations. A massive diplomatic conflict (with diplomatic relations and trade being severed) is inevitable.

Hmm... convincing all the 'enlightened' democracies to put even more money and manpower into... yet another international 'peacekeeping' organization.  A bigger one at that.  Minus 'dissenters' who can potentially contribute a nice portion to that pie. Yup.
