All the more reason for USA to send aid to the Libyan government.

I'm under the impression that Libya has no army... just like Afghanistan had no army... well a little better in the fact that they have some loyal armed militias?  Or well... I think that is part of the problem isn't it?

I'm kind of surprised that there have been no comments about the Taliban impersonating U.S. Marines and trying to assassinate Prince Harry. I mean, that doesn't happen every day.

That just too fucked. There's really nothing to say, other than "Is the Middle East turning into a Sitcom?"

I don't see anything to suggest they were trying to kill Prince Harry, considering they got absolutely nowhere near him.  Rather it seemed to be an operation to destroy planes, which they did pretty effectively.

Why would that be shocking? Using enemy uniforms to perform sabotage is a pretty common tactics. It has been used probably since the armies begun to use uniforms at all.

This article has some interesting thoughts on that topic. I found this particularly surprising;

My co-blogger Adam helpfully pointed to this RAND study on ground attacks on military airfields, which, chronicling them from 1940-1992, noted that relatively unsophisticated and lightly-equipped forces were able to destroy 2000 aircraft during this time period.

Well, they could have killed him if they came across him. I mean, I don't think the Taliban would think "Aw it's just the Prince, where the hell are the planes?". They totally would have taken the opportunity to take him out if they had found him.

I'd imagine it was an objective of opportunity. The Prince might be moved, the planes not so much.

Anyway, they blew it when those US Marines caught them midway through the operation. Otherwise, they may very well have got the Prince too.

I... guess?  But the same goes for every other soldier on the base, and unless Harry decided to take a walk near the airfield for no reason it's not very likely they'd just come across him.

I'm gonna have to agree with Leafsnail here.  They were not just going to 'look for Prince Harry'.  They would have shot at any of the soldiers stationed there.  Targets of opportunity in their eyes is any of the enemy.  Let Allah sort em out later.

Found out from a friend currently in Pakistan that the Pakistani government has blocked YouTube. All of it. On grounds of containing "indecent material". Apparently, they initially tried just blocking that video, but other people began reposting it, and it proliferated to the point where they just said, "Fuck it. Pull the plug."

Awesome. That will backfire on them like it did when they tried to ban Facebook.
