There's a big election in Nigeria in the next week or so.  That could flare up real bad.

I think it's worth pointing out that, taken alone, most of these issues are business as usual in their respective regions, and wouldn't even make page four in the paper.  Including protesters being shot, sadly.

The US is using propaganda messages telling Libyan troops to lay down their arms and for their ships to return to port.

I'd hardly call that propaganda.

That's also par for the course. PsyOps is a standard part of warfare, going back to the days when people stuck heads on pikes or hung dismembered bodies from their city walls as a blunt message to the enemy: "See this? This is you, if you continue to f*ck with us."

The Swedish government just formally authorized sending 8 JAS Gripen fighters, an EW plane and a C130 to assist with the no-fly-zone, although they've attached the condition that they can't be used for ground attacks.

That broadcast would be pretty chilling to hear.

Still, I think it's the standard.

Works even better when you follow up on it with action:
US aircraft engage Libyan coastguard vessel

If a P3C Orion fired on the vessel, that means they actually launched a Harpoon missile on a 12 metre coast guard vessel. There can't be much left of it. The article also confirms there are A-10 warthogs over Libya.

Edit: Was a maverick missile, not harpoon, so there might actually be some bits left.

A maverick could still cut a 12 meter boat in two, and the entire thing would be in the killing radius of the blast.

Cost of a Maverick Missile: $17,000 to $110,000?
Cost of Jet Fuel: $1380?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So it's a western "crusader colonial aggression" (a while ago anyway), funded by Qatar and the emirates. Good that's all cleared up then.

For those who want to see what Libyans get on their TVs, the LJBC is streamed live here. For some reason the massive green banner switches to english at times. At least it's better than what the North Koreans are getting but not by much. They do have a few other channels though, like the praise Muammar Gaddafi singalong music channel.

Whaa whaa whaa?!

This I won't stand for. Call uss aggressors, call us nazis, point out countless controversies involved in our various overseas activities, but don't go saying your rivals paid for our military equipment. I'll have them know that we paid our massively bloated military with our own tax money, and I'm not gonna have some other government take the credit for my taxes.

Technically, they're probably paid for by Chinese-held US Treasury bonds.

Of course, some wingnut on FOX will now use that tidbit to argue that this is all a devious Chinese plan for world domination.  ::)

OK, I don't know what to think of this. For those unfamiliar with the things, those are rocket launcher pods usually mounted on helicopter or aircraft hardpoints.
