Sensitive stuff is on different channels, encrypted and in burst traffic. They can avoid civilian traffic but it's impractical and there's no real point for this sort of operation. The B2's don't bother much with ATC for instance.

HUSKY are canuck flying tankships by the way.

Boooooring. Man, and I thought we had a ringside seat.

Which reminds me...given the state of az-Zawiya, EpicLibyanMan is probably no longer among us. I at least hope he went down chopping a tank with his axe.  :(

Speaking of swords...

Our thoughts are with you, you brave unknown maniac.  It is honest tragedy, having faces and characters to put to the stories and numbers.  The size and scale doesn't matter, for every one of those Libyans, this is as real as war gets.

I actually think that it quite easy to disable a tank in close quaters, just pop a hatch open and either engage in hand-to-hand or throw a grenade into it. So I think that's quite believeable to happen.

Well, tanks are long range weapons, yeah.  And their guns don't point "down".  The problem is that you'll take massive casualties getting close to the damn thing.

Also, I'm pretty sure that hatches lock from the inside if they want them to.

That's what I was going to say. I have no idea, but I'd think tanks have defenses against people wanting to throw a grenade in.

On a normal battlefield. In urban environments getting closer is a lot easier.

This relies on the crew remembering to lock them.

I'm pretty sure "lock the doors" is the first thing you do when you see people on foot coming at you.  Much more likely, they caught up to a tank crew that was dismounted for one or another reason.

I've been in maybe... okay. Lets have fun.

The designers thought of that and put locks on the interior of the hatches. Some also have ports to drop grenades out of to clear away unwanted riders, most noticably the German S-mine. Sorry.

If grenades can be tossed out, can they also be tossed in?

Something tells me that the people who build tanks have had enough decades to figure out how to fix such glaring design flaws.  It's a clear case of operator error.  Like "Uh oh, they're getting close, I'd better open the hatch and shoot them with the turret gun or a rifle WHERE DID THAT GUY COME FROM, YOU CAN'T CLIMB ON TANKS THAT IS HAX"
