Analogy in defense of the statement's rationality.

"Political party labels are important, because people are more likely to vote based on them than the actual qualities of the candidates."
Analogy in defence of the statement's irrationality.

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo called,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name;
And for thy name, which is no part of thee,
Take all myself."

Yeah... but Puzzlemaker was commenting on the way the majority of people operate, not the way things actually are.  He basically agreed with the sentiment of that Shakespearean reflection, but added "but most people don't think that way."

Who are you to say how things actually are? This is a Democracy After all, Majority Rule and all that.

Which is why stuff like this

"Political party labels are important, because people are more likely to vote based on them than the actual qualities of the candidates."

makes names important.  This is really petty and stupid so I'm going to leave it alone now.

Fear names. Names have power in identity. Others can use names as weapons. Names are a hook that can be used to track you across the planes. Remain nameless, and you shall be safe.

Three soldier of the Netherlands have been captured by Kadhafi's forces.
Meanwhile Chavez still show that he's in fact an asshole.http://www.lexpress.fr/actualite/monde/libye-frappe-aerienne-sur-la-ville-rebelle-de-brega_968212.html

I don't get the need for argument. Why not just call them counter-revolutionaries and be done with it? It is the term that's been used for revolts against the (old) revolutionaries since the 1700's, after all. It exist for this kind of situations.

Three soldier of the Netherlands have been captured by Kadhafi's forces.
How, where, and most importantly, why?

They were trying to evacuate foreigners. And capturing an european soldiers that have an order to hold fire is dumb easy, so I guess for the "why", because they could.

Heh, I guess. What's with the Chavez thing, though? I found out that he's come up with some sort of "peace plan", but there's not info on what it involves.

Basically, basically, he support Kadhafi, or at least that's the impression that give our newspaper. He want to do some sort of "mediation".

Yeah, I remembered you can just Google Translate and get understandable text nowadays, so I checked it out myself. ;)

I don't really think you can call him an asshole for this, though. Of course "talks" resulting in democracy and all that shit (mediate goes both ways, after all) would be better than civil war. I just don't believe (and I don't think anyone, not even Chavez, disagrees with me) it's possible - it weren't before, and it's definitely not now. It seems to me like Chavez is just trying to steal some of the light and come of as the "good guy" trying supporting the "best" way to deal with things (even though it's not a plausible turn of actions).
At least that is my impression from the very fast read-up I just did.

I'll give you a couple of useful words in US politics:

Terrorist, Communist, Anarchist, Atheist.

Doesn't matter if they're factual, what matters is if they affect the opinion of the people.

In Argentina, any political leader must call himself a "Peronista" to succeed even if he never follows up on the ideology.

Lunatic dictator Chavez came out with some plan for lunatic dictator Khadaffi and the rebels.  From what I've read the rebels just said "hell no" and are going about business as usual.

Al Jazeera has a very nice little summary of all the chaos in the middle east.
