Personally, I feel that the fact that the UN hasn't tried to step-in in any meaningful manner does have the underappreciated upside that [Not even going to attempt to spell his name] now has a much better chance of being hacked to pieces, or shot to ribbons, or blown to smithereens by pissed off protesters instead of merely being hanged or something for crimes against humanity.

Last I've heard, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is discussing providing humanitarian aid to the areas in control by the rebellion. The only reason that the UN is powerless to do anything is that they can only do anything with the permission of the Russians and the Chinese.

Yes the thing about the Ivory Coast, I've heard they've had major bank runs in recent weeks.  They could be next.

The problem is, how do you tell unrest in Cote d'Ivoire from the *regular* f**ked-up situations in Cote d'Ivoire? That whole section of West Africa has massive issues for countries so tiny.

Cameroon had a major state-owned bank collapse and unlike in the West, there's no such thing as an FDIC. People who put their money in that bank? POOF. It's gone. Now you wanna talk about something that will start a revolt...however, the one protest last Friday was poorly organized and announced far enough in advance that the police had plenty of time to prepare security measures.

Right now, my thought is that Syria or Bahrain will be the next one to have a major escalation. Although Iraq had a day of major protests yesterday, I don't see the US allowing Iraq to go to Hell in a handbasket after we've just spent the last seven years trying to un-break it.
