Ah, and here I was hoping we could go Three for Three on the Peaceful Revolutions. Well, you can't have everything you want.

Anyway, I'm heading down there to see what's the haps.  I don't have a camera or anything, but I guess I'll take notes.  I suppose I should read up on the latest news before I go.

Well, they were there.  I'd guess about two hundred hundred people altogether, in one big group in front of the Kennedy museum (since it's easy to see), and a smaller group with more photos in front of the Dealey memorial (since it's photogenic), who had all the local camera press around them.  Virtually the entire crowd was ethnically Arabic, but not all immigrants by any means, and certainly only some of them were actually Libyan.  I say "virtually" because one painfully white guy was leading many of the chants - you'd be surprised how long people can chant continuously.  It mostly had the cadence of the Egyptian protesters but with English lyrics.  Also surprising how many people in Dallas will slow down to honk and wave.

Roughly the same group held a couple rallies like that in front of the City Hall the last few weeks, for Egypt.  Too bad for them, the architecture of the Dallas City Hall is specifically designed to thwart and belittle public gatherings, so they headed over to the only other open space downtown.

Please clarify that.

Wow, this Saif Gadaffi fella has inherited his dad's mental disorders and then some. He's been rambling in his chair for almost 40 minutes straight now, eyes shifting, fingers and hands flailing about. Sometimes he stops talking for several seconds and just stares in front of him or straight down. Talking of rivers of blood and a grand arabic conspiracy (?!) against libya.

11:54 pm: Further reports suggest the 500,000-strong Tuareg tribe in south Libya has heeded the call from the million-strong Warfala tribe to join the uprising.  Protesters in Ghat and Ubary, home to Libyan Tuareg clans are reportedly attacking government buildings and police stations.

11:25 pm Online reports claim remaining pro-Gaddafi militia in Benghazi, around the Elfedeel Bu Omar compound, "are being butchered by angry mobs".  It is impossible to verify the claims, though Al Jazeera has spoken with several people in the city who say protesters control the city, as security forces flee to the airport.

Somehow, I don't get the feeling that the Libyans are going to be as merciful towards Gaddafi as the Egyptians were towards Mubarak.

Good luck to them all. Wish it didn't have to be so violent, but Gadaffi really isn't going to go down without a fight.

While we might not be 3 for 3 on peaceful revolutions, it will do the momentum of the movement well for people to show "If you do not let us get our way peacefully, we WILL slaughter every last one of you"

Since the takeaway from the Egypt situation by various dictators seemed to have been "suppress quickly and brutally or we'll end up like Egypt", I'm sure it will be good to have the counterpoint "Of course, maybe holding out peacefully for a month or two and then retiring to a life of luxury is better then us and all our supporters getting butchered in the streets"

Considering the money they often make off with out the door, capitalism dictates(no pun intended) that one must exist somewhere.
