But do they even know how to use that cannon? It definitely doesn't look like something you could just aim with a laser pointer and fire with the click of a button :/

In any case, as a person living in the Middle East (Lebanon, which luckily is not affected because we actually have an ever so slightly decent democratic-ish system), I can definitely say that no, none of any of these 'revolutions' in any of the countries currently affected will change anything in the long run, unless there is some serious change in the population's ideals and principles at the same time. Heck, I haven't even been following what has been happening for more than 2 weeks, and wouldn't have even thought about it again if it weren't for this thread, because of how inconsequential it is all in all.

Sure it's not practical, but you won't want to argue with a bunch of guys with a cannon on their car.  Could be good in siege type situations too.

I wouldn't be very suprised if we found out that the Libyan Land Pirates don't actually have any ammo for their M40, and are just using it for negotiations. If negotiations are concluded while the camera is on, I suppose we'll find out.

The army's been run off from the city they're from, so they probably raided an armoury. Looks like it was a collective effort too (video by same guy as the other one).

In the vid I linked there, at 1:23, some dude is brandishing (tusken raider style) something that looks like 105mm ammo for an M40 recoilless rifle. Watch that vid, they have a lot of ordinance.

There are rumors that a lot of army personell and even police have defected and have been handing out weapons to rebels. They're mostly fighting ghadaffi loyalist units and mercs imported from sub-saharan countries.

That whole video looks like one big parade of "Hey, look at all the shit we found in the armory!"

Saw some mortar rounds and a slew of light arms. I'm pretty sure I saw an abaya-clad woman in one of the cars brandishing a pistol as well.

Prediction: no matter which side wins, many of those weapons will never return to the armories, but will instead vanish and resurface periodically as people decide to solve personal vendettas with RPGs

I would say that you could probably fit a Rocket-Propelled Grenade Launcher under a Burqa if you were particularly determined.

If we hadn't lost all credibility in the Iraqi war, I'd say that we should intervene.

So, apparently there's a group of people in Dallas who get together for "protests" like calling for Mubarak's and Qaddafi's ouster.  Why, I have no idea.  I missed them a couple weeks ago, but now they're back in Dealey Plaza (best known for where Kennedy was shot) for something to do with Libya.  I'm not exactly why anyone in Dallas would give two shits, but we do have a surprisingly large Arabic population and at least an office of the Turkish Consulate, so... Hell, I dunno.

Anyway, I'm heading down there to see what's the haps.  I don't have a camera or anything, but I guess I'll take notes.  I suppose I should read up on the latest news before I go.

We've taken the incredibly strong measure of ceasing arm sales to the Libyans.  That'll stop the bolting horse dead in its tracks.

If we hadn't lost all credibility in the Iraqi war, I'd say that we should intervene.
Then screw our credibility. Everyone deserves to live in a fair and democratic society.

Not to mention that toppling a dictator for questionable motives and then staying in the country for a decade is one thing to the world, and trying to keep protestors from being slaughtered en mass by an authoritarian regime would be quite another. I'm not saying that the free nations of the world should consider helping these revolutions along, I'm saying that they should without a doubt. It's not exactly like things can get much worse than insane dictatorships.
