It looks like the demonstrations are turning peaceful again, with a lot of the troublemakers being arrested by the military.

Other than the fact their role in this thing has been kind of ambiguous from the start....I have to say I'm becoming a fan of the Egyptian military. Some people have been hurt, yes, but by and large there was more than enough opportunities for them to just open fire, or declare a coup d' tate themselves. It's unbelievable to me the amount of restraint a threatened military can show when they know the population is behind them.

I feel like salvaging this post from back on page 33

Cairo is a bit of a roller coaster ride. Wednesday it was horrors and mayhem on the street with 3-4000 injured and dead. Today it's this:

Yeah, I wonder how long that will last.  Probably not much longer.  Who in the Egyptian military would give a face to the coup?

For all you know, Mubarak and his Generals worked out some backroom deal.  It might be the case that Mubarak promised the army he'd leave after X number of days (in order to get his money out of the country and the like) and in exchange the army promised not to stir up too much trouble, leading to a somewhat more "orderly" coup rather than tanks storming his residence.

Or the army is just trying to get on the good side of the west so that when all hell breaks lose they can get one of their own to replace Mubarak for the coming 30 years...

This would get you a lot of cash in GTA

Here's the full video from that incident. Warning: not pretty.

Whoa. Now I'd like to see the reactions of everybody who did that in a videogame.

Probably an excellent example of how doing something in a game doesn't do much to prepare a person for witnessing the same in real life.

I see little reason to get worked up over it. A car drives over some people at high speed. Happens somewhere pretty much every hour. Someone killing loads of people happens pretty much every week. Only difference here is a.) the lack of heavy explosives/guns and b.) the guy doesn't kill himself in the process.

Actually, it's because of my extensive experience in games that I know damn well he was aiming for kills. There was a big wide-open patch of road. He didn't go that way. He was just rackin' em up instead and stopped aiming for them only wihen the "road" got too bumpy.

Intent?  Yeah, I'll wince at a nasty accident and move on, but seeing this done on purpose produces a much deeper reaction, at least for me.

Considering it was most likely either a deliberate attempt by the Mubarak camp to discredit the US or a US  employee deciding to run down some people out of fear? anger? It might be something to get worked up over.

Actually it didn't shock me at all, and I don't even play that kind of games (at most I run over frogs in Diddy kong racing).
Yeah, I'm a horrible person.
