I would like to see this as a premise for bad horror movie. A crazed killer ambushing trained soldiers and leaving only corpses.

Someone told me the M1 Abrams tanks have an external fire extinguisher handle you can pull if you get close enough, that will make it a bit unpleasant for the crew inside.

That seems like enough of a flaw that it wouldn't exist.

Maybe someone figured that if the tank crew was too busy being on fire to pull a lever, someone else might be able to do it from outside the tank.

Except if the tank crew is on fire, presumably things are bad enough that there aren't going to be friendly infantry just milling about outside.

Well, it seems like the kind of thing you have on-base, and conveniently remove before you take it out for a spin.  If it exists at all, of course, which I kinda doubt...

I can see the use if, say, a training exercise goes horribly wrong but I'd have thought a sensor that detects fire and reacts accordingly would be safer than a "pull to disorientate" lever.
