Zawiyah's Square is in "protester" hands still.

Please tell me you're being facetious.  The internet hurts my brain enough as is.

The was a big argument about this earlier.  Apparently the old regime always titled itself as the rebels, so now the new uprising finds being called that extremely offensive.  It's purely semantics, but there's no real reason to use that word if they find it so insulting.

IIRC, in the earlier agrument the old regime's usage of the word "rebel" was likened to the way that Adolph Hitler ruined a perfectly good style of mustache.

If only somehow we could get them the original Star Wars Trilogy this whole issue with the word Rebel could be resolved.

TBH I don't see any reason not to use that word (when it's the most adequate one), just because (supposedly) it offends them. PR crap is bad enough without having to add new words to the repertoire.

Calling them Rebels would be like calling them Nazi's, Just because Rebel is still a perfectly good word doesn't mean it has not been Corrupted and stripped of all but the most negative implications.

But it is still the most accurate word, what do you suggest instead?

How about a compromise and call them "demonstrators"? They are demonstrating that they do not want certain people to run their country any more, also they are demonstrating that they have an army to use to rectify the situation.

There were some shots fired by Saudi Arabian police during a demonstration today, but otherwise not very volatile there today.  Supposedly one injured but it's not clear if that was from being shot or something else.

Well, Saudi Arabia's big day is tomorrow. I guess we'll see how things turn out then. With any luck it'll turn out gigantic and force the monarchy out of power, but I doubt that's very likely.

Quite frankly, I consider that a gross exaggeration.

Some are calling for a constitutional monarchy, so it's not like everyone's calling for the king to be beheaded or anything.  More of a figurehead like Britain.

The main difference between Saudi Arabia (along with Iran) and Libya, Egypt and Tunisia is that the latter were all secular in nature.  In SA, the people have to overthrow the ruling class AND the church, because they are one and the same.  This is likely to lead to a lot of sectarian violence.

Well yes, but the leaked cables showed that the ruling class weren't the most...churchlike of individuals.  I'm sure there's plenty of people who want to keep the church in the same role, but replace the actual leader-folks.
