If you arrange for singular pieces of furniture to be encrusted with a large number of gems (or a small number of very valuable gems), you get something that's actually quite useful for noble bedrooms. It is difficult to get a high-value bed, for instance, since they cap out at 120 Urists naturally, but put a few good gems on it and you can get something that'll make your Duke happy.

 Thats basically what I do too, my head noble sleeps on a bed worth 20+K dwarf bucks

I encrust finished good and then trade them to traders? Am I weird for this. I find after a few years I can retire both jewelers (yes one for cutting, one for encrusting) and craftsdwarfs, because every single craft is worth everything in the caravan and I often get everything I want for one or two crafts.
