Blue Candy armor and axes.  Pure pwn.  Alternatively, furniture, as Candy has a 300x value modifier, compared to platinum's weak 40x (that's not a typo, it's THAT valuable!).

Priority #1: Armor.

Don't use "the good stuff" until you have a Legendary Armorer, though... and make sure that he is the one who will actually make the stuff. If you don't have a Legendary Armorer, get each of your non-moodable Dwarves (dudes with no moodable skills: peasants, farmers, brewers, soap-makers, butchers, lye-makers, etc) to each make one piece of Armor or Shield out of some junk material like copper... you can just melt it again afterwards.

Priotity #2: Edged weapons (like Axes) and pointed weapons (like Spears).

Again, don't use up any of "the good stuff" until you have a Legendary Weaponsmith. You can increase the odds by having each non-moodable Dwarf make a few Crossbow Bolts.

Don't bother making blunt weapons (Hammers, Maces, etc) out of the good stuff... it's too light to make an effective blunt weapon.

If you're using Dwarf Therapist, use on lvl 20 armor/weapon to use the blue.

Furniture is a bit more leniant, I believe, since it takes 1 bar to make something and melts back into 1 bar, but I don't know how that works with waffers.

10x masterful serrated Candy disks, with masterful platinum studs.  So much value your monarch will have to change pants every time they enter the room.

out of curiousity, why armor over weapons?  i've just gotten to the good stuff as well, but i've started off making axes and spears.  what's the reason to prioritize armor?

I don't know why you would, steel already outclasses every other civ and the only things that kill through steel (FB special attacks) kill through adamantite as well.  The only real reason you would want to get full adamantite armor as well would be to take on HFS.

The theory is that if I can stay alive, I'll be able to kill whatever I'm facing even with Steel weapons... while if I'm killed, even Adamantine weapons won't help me much.

Naturally, this is a judgement call.

That cuts both ways... don't steel weapons also outclass every other civ?

Yes, steel does outclass every civ in both weapons and armor, but remember: The faster you kill them, the less chance for them to get lucky.

Agreed.  I usually tend to make blue swords before using the stuff for armor, especially if I have a fairly limited supply.  I figure if I only have enough to make 10 items, it's more effective to make 10 weapons for 10 dwarves rather than just 1 suit of armor for 1 dwarf.

I'd say make weapons. Steel is more than enough protection against pretty much anything you would come up against, even at the carnival. But skip swords. They are inefficient and inferior to picks.

Wait, when people are talking about a "Cotton Candy" hammer, this is what they mean?  Somehow I was thinking that some dwarf had gone into a Strange Mood and made a hammer out of Dwaven Sugar.

Haha, that'd be something... but no, general references to "carnivals" and such refer to Adamantine/HFS.  As in... clowns, carnival, cotton candy, etc...
