MP5s
« on: January 27, 2011, 02:13:13 pm »

MP5s have a very strange position in the Liberal Crime Squad world.

They are used by security guards when gun laws are conservative enough, however any squad member with a MP5 - even one in a security guard uniform - will be shouted out by the conservatives, just as if they were using an AK47.

Is there any in-game or out of game reason for this discrepancy?

You know you can hide it under a coat?

I think what AlStar means is that a conservative spotted wielding a MP5 is only natural, but a liberal causes immediate alarm (even if wearing an appropriate disguise!).

I think it was jsut overlooked.

Can liberals wearing an army uniform take M-16 with them?

Nope (as for the quite recent but not sure about the most recent version), that's the whole point I suppose. And this has caused some quality wine to be produced in the wineries of this forum.

Did I or someone else make a conscious decision to make disguises not work for weapons anymore, or is this a series of oversights and errors? Maybe I thought this was a good idea at one point and just forgot about that.

The option exists in the XML files, however it is marked as only being functional during sieges. I don't know if this is by design or if it's just not been done yet for sites.

Relatively certain the M4 and Army Uniform/Deathsquad Uniform not raising alarm and the security uniform/swat uniform/police gang unit and MP5 not raising alarm were oversights.

I seem to recall they both worked in Toady's last version.  However, this may actually indicate intent to change.

Actually, neither the M4 nor the MP5 was in Toady's last version, and weapon didn't affect your disguise rolls. ;)

You might have been thinking M-16 though, rather than M4; that was in Toady's last version, it just had the stats of the AR-15 in this version.

But your memory is correct on the point that this used to work. I found a bit of code that makes it so that disguise only lets you get away with during sieges, accompanied by a comment that looks suspiciously like my writing, correctly explaining the ramifications of the code. I don't know what I was thinking; next release will have that removed, and MP5s, M-16s, and M4s will all be safe when you're under disguise.
