I was dumping puppies into some magma (why? cuz I was bored), and the last one did this:

   

The spot where they were dumped was right on the edge of a cliff that falls into a chasm 1 or 2 levels down (I'm testing that "do chasms still get red lines?" question) so, depending on when the message is generated, I suppose it might be possible that the magma flow pushed it into the chasm before the message was fully assembled. I strongly doubt that I could reproduce it, and I don't have a save before it happened (nor immediately after; didn't think of it until much later). I had set 6 of them to be dumped (in a Pit zone) all at once, and it was the last of them that generated the goofy message.

Edit: Ugh. If I had autobackup on, I could have had a save immediately after. Found this in gamelog.txt:

Do you want a save anyway, long after the fact? The puppy should still be in my dead list, and I assume that you store how they died, so maybe you could see if one of them has an odd (or missing) death?

Yeah, I can take a look at it.  I'll need the region folder in some kind of zip/rar/7z, and any new objects that were added to the raw folder.  If it's less than 20 megs, you can send it to toadyone@bay12games.com.  You can also try The Dwarf Fortress File Depot which has a special section for bugged saves.

What was the version?

Sorry for the delay, been busy at work preparing for some upgrades.

Version is current (38c). I always forget to mention that when I'm using the current one  :)

No mods unless you count a custom tileset. Diff tells me that these are the only init changes plus a bunch of colors that I'm not going to waste space with:

I may have changed the Pop Cap from 200 to 150 after the fortress had been started, but everything else should have already been like that.

Okay, this is fixed now.  It wasn't transferring kill causes correctly for creatures that died heat deaths while passing through magma before they hit the ground.

Sorry to drag this up over a week later, but I had been away for a few weeks and had forgotten about it until I saw that the bug report had made it to some one's signature and decided to look it up. I'm glad you were able to figure out what it was   :)
