Unable to make memorial for some dwarves
« on: January 25, 2011, 11:19:23 pm »

I have a couple questions about memorials:

1.  Is there a max number of dwarves you can make memorials for?
2.  Are you unable to make memorials for some dwarves?
3.  Is there any way to get dwarves names that you've already memorialized off the list?

I have a couple ghosts that I have no way of getting rid of and its starting to bog down the fort.

With [SLOW_LEARNER], dwarves probably don't sit around and talk anymore. They just stand in the same corner altogether, staring at each other, sticking their bearded lips out trying to make sounds. And giggling when someone actually says a whole word.

Better find the body and bury it.

I wonder if webs work on them...

(It occurs to me that I said this exact thing a few months ago, regarding titans, FBs, and HFS)

wait wait wait.. since they work on FBs, then they must also work on HFS.  OH GOD.  I'm totally going to try the wooden door trick to catch a GCS now, since i've never had one.

They do. It's incredibly satisfying to have a HFS zoo.

I had something like this just happen; I discovered a ghost hanging around the fort and went to engrave a slab for him.  However, the task canceled because there were no slabs and he disappeared from the list.

However, when I found him again his name reappeared on the list.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

Yeah, but it's one of the good bugs.  Given how rare fell moods are already, I have to vote for leaving it in out of pure awesomeness.

Also, I have to believe that they'd only move back to the deceased list and therefore be able to respawn as ghosts.  Sadly, he didn't even get a corpse out of them, so the fell mood guy had to slaughter some other dwarf....

You could have berries on the rocks and the dwarves would say it was "berry gneiss."
You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

I'm almost positive that you can't take creatures off the list, whether or not they are already memoralized.  The only way to make sure you don't double up is to find the first dwarf who had died since the last set of slabs, and start on his name, then go down the list until you get to a forgotten beast/invader.  It is nice that it keeps it at the same spot on the list, so you can just go down each time you add a new order.

1. unknown. unlikely.
2. You can't make a memorial for caravan guards, near as I can tell. So if they die, get a damn coffin and recover their bodies at all costs.
3. I wish. A toggle-able option to do this would be WONDERFUL.

I had two caravan dwarves die, which murdered my FPS.  You cannot make memorials to them (but you can make them for invaders?) however, a coffin will suffice.  Just be aware that for me, I assigned the trade guards special tombs, and my dwarves then hauled them over to the common peasant tombs.  If you're trying to place them somewhere in specific, disable/lock the door of other tomb areas.

Also, what happens if you atom smash a body?  Will it ghost on you?
