Strange Gods
« on: January 25, 2011, 01:51:16 pm »

Looking through the list of historical figures in my new world (The realm of dragons, epic name) i found two really wierd gods.

One of them was a fly god, which was quite funny, but it was totally eclipsed by Epo, the Fluffy Wambler God. "Epo was a deity that occurs in the myths of the Realm of Feed. Epo was most often depicted as a male fluffy wambler and was associated with tourture, misery, rain and nature.

NOT THE FLUFFY WAMBLERS!

Anyone else get something funny or badass?

This is a finely-crafted unicorn bone figurine of Lorbam Dragonbeaches.
The item is a finely crafted image of Lorbam Dragonbeaches, the deity of oceans, rivers and rulership, depicted as a male lungfish in unicorn bone by Urist McBoneCarver. Lorbam Dragonbeaches looks offended.

The most dangerous creature in DF is Fluffy Wamblers. Toady made them to quietly dominate the world. Have you seen the bronze colossus thread? It was done when BC where nearly invincible. Guess how him got killed? Fluffy wamblers. Dont throw these atomic bombs.

How can a lungfish look offended? I have a very cartoony anthropomorphized image in my head now.

The fluffy wambler god of torture and misery is hilarious too.

The world I genned for my next fort has several (dwarven and human) deities of muck. No other aspects, just muck. Who the hell worships muck? It also has a god of "revelry and suicide", one of "blight and consolation" and one of "blight, death, rebirth and birth". I can't decide which is the most freaky of these.

Depends on what worshiping a deity of muck entails. Maybe they worship in hopes that there will be less muck.
Worship to quell a deity's wrath is one of the historical reasons for worshiping 'evil' gods.

I've got a giant cave spider god at the moment. Can't decide whether that's badass (dorfs worshipping the coolest critter in the underground!) or worrying (cult of Lolth in my fort??)

actually that gives me an idea: catch a real GCS, build a temple for it as the living incarnation of the god, and feed it live prisoners as sacrifices.

Feed it elves, Lolth loaths surface elves.

I had one named Oklit. That's all, really, but I liked the name.

What's the spider a god of? Definitely try to catch one of its avatars and build it a temple!

And I can understand trying to stave off an evil god's wrath, but ... it's muck. What's that god going to do, leave muddy footprints on the dwarves' nonexistent carpets? That wouldn't even be noticeable among the vomit, pus and gore that covers much of the average fortress. ;)

Toral, god of fortress, caverns and mountains... is a male cave lobster.
For some reason, I'm not exactly impressed. At all. Maybe this annoying feeling will go away if I build him a lobster-shaped giant temple. Maybe.

I once found a civilisation that had a god of salt. Really? Do they really need a god for that??

If their main export is salt, yes. If not, then maybe they're very picky about their food.

I, for some reasons, am getting multiple incarnations of Nurgle in my genned worlds. Death, disesase and so, often rotting or skeletal. Sometimes they go blatant and oversee chaos too.
