Will the water freeze him in come winter?  Maybe use magma to encase him in rock.

His map may not freeze. Also, I doubt the BC can get out, or else it would have already.

Cage it, then place it in a large 2 z-level room with a one tile wide platform around it. Order your marksdwarves to stand on said platform and watch them train. I trained four dwarves to elite marksdwarves (including one legendary) and it still didn't break. You could also throw in prisoners. More targets, plus a good show.

Using them as zoo items seems common, but archery practice sounds awesome.  Since archery ranges are difficult to actually use, having a permanent bronze bullseye to aim at would rank up archers pretty quick.

he isn't getting out, hes been in there for six months or so. my dwarves cant get within ten or so squares without running away. my map is tropical.

also, why bother dropping him? juts dig a tunnel into the side, make sure a cage trap is on the other end of the tunnel. my dwarf sees him, runs away, goes over the trap, the colossus follows, and boom, instant caged megabeast.

i'm pretty sure that climbing out of pits is an ability unique to adventurers and water creatures. its a soil layer.

also, did i mention that I have a heavily wounded dorf just out of range of my dorfs ability to pick him up? and that something like twenty of my dogs (i bring a lot of dogs, easier to use for defense than dorfs) are crowded around his pond, fighting him, and have been almost the whole time I've been here? since the colossus is using a sock, he cant hurt them, and since the colossus is, well, a colossus, they cant hurt him.

I'm sorry, this is hilarious.  This is pure dwarven gold.  You MUST abuse this to the fullest!  Construct an entire shrine around this Colossus!  Let him loose suddenly, and while he's slaughtering your useless migrants (no one likes a cheese maker) have your top engraver work on the walls.  Lol heartily at the engravings of cheese makers being beaten senseless by a sock.

Adamantine Hammer is marginally more lethal than a sock (marginally meaning "it theoretically can bruise you) while silver, quite the contrary, is the heaviest material that can conventionally be used for weapons, not counting strange moods as these are unconventional.  The idea seems to be to create mass havoc and death, not pillow-fighting with hammers.

I know that perfectly. Actually go ahead and add platinum to the mix  :P or even tugsten  ;D

I thought he wanted to have an entertaining arena for his dwarves to be pitted against. or stupid goblins.

Force a moody weaponsmith to make a platinum war hammer.

Colossi can not learn, so he'll never learn how to swim, and won't improve combat performance over time. In addition to no regen this means he'll only get worse, so use him wisely before he'll get tattered. Also, archery target isn't the brightest idea, my adventurer colossus has met his end after several encounters with archers which led to fracturing both of his arms.
