Armor for a dwarf?
« on: January 24, 2011, 04:36:23 pm »

How do you get armor for a dwarf in adventure mode? Do dwarven forts have shopkeepers? The wiki says they don't and I don't want to kill any dwarves to get armor that's my size. Please help an adventurer noob.

The easiest solution is to make a fort in fortress mode, forge a ton of armor, abandon it, then visit it with your adventurer and pick up the armor.

And if you don't want to do that, travel around goblin territory until you get ambushed, then take their armor after they're dead (or before if you're patient and a good wrestler).

Dwarves can wear goblin armor? I thought it was too narrow...

It used to be, but .31 simplified it to "same averages species size = you can wear it" or something similar and since elves, goblins, and dwarves all have the same average size (60,000 cm^3, 6/7) they can all use the same armor.

Funny... I always imagined elves as human sized. So humans are largest of the sentient species.

Additionally, in this version, there are no dwarven fortresses, and even when there were, there were no shops. There are also no elf forest retreats and no Dark Fortresses. They show up on the overland map, but there's nothing there when you actually explore it on the ground.

If you sleep there goblins will show up. Dozens and dozens of goblins.

You can also visit the lairs of night creatures/titans/megabeasts/whatever and sniff around for good loot.  They tend to collect goodies from people they kill during world gen, including dwarves.

Like I said, ambushes are still around and what you're ambushed and how frequently depends on location.

Of course, this only works if you gen a world with a big enough history.

My current world is only 125 years old, so half of the lairs have nothing in them but the creature's utensils and the rest will barely have one person's gear.
