Windmills cause dmg?

I'm noticing a lot of corpses starting to form around my windmills (which I've never used widely before) which are just on the ground lvl, and there is blood on a few of the blades.... but I haven't been watching them closely, so I was wondering if things like cats (which have been known to mysteriously bleed to death near them) or whatever can get damaged by the windmill blades?

Are you sure? Never had problems with windmills before. Do you have a screenshot or something?

Maybe the game is mistaking 'cats' for 'bats'. It's only a one letter difference, you can't blame it.

I'm happy to tell you sir, that either your cats can fly (into windmills). Or the local dragonflies are REALLY pissed off.

Also Urist McCat-thrower may be wandering in your area, leave a watch by every catapult and put trackers on all your cats if he does it single-handedly.

I've always been paranoid about other things damaging my windmills and ruining the project it was built for, so I do a simple stone wall surrounding them.  I've even put a floor over top to stop anything from flying down into the channel/hole/stairs.  Also good vs maps with a volcano and the occasional fire imp shooting across the channel at a bird or passing merchant/migrant.
Only blood I've had was during a siege that happened to be nearby and a legendary wrestler (superdwarvenly strong) armed with a blue sword tore someone to bits and sent those bits across a wide area.

I build my windmills ON TOP of a C-shaped wall... that way, I can put the Mechanism in the recess in the center of the "C", and after the windmill is finished I can demolish the ramp which gave my workers access to the top of the wall. It raises the Windmills out of reach of building destroyers, and I can then wall-in the Mechanism.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

I do corners myself.  Mechanism in the center, windmills on the 4 corners around it, and windmill on top of that.

Nice thread, now we'll have weaponised windmills and windmill based dangerrooms. maybe windmill firing water cannons?

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.
