[38c] DF crashes
« on: March 30, 2008, 11:42:00 am »

Hi, whenever I play this save, it crashes after about 1-2 mins.  :(

I tried rebooting. I made this in 38c, I have about 70 dwarves, there are two (known) goblin ambushes in progress. Running on WinXP SP2 with 1 GB RAM.

Thanks! I hope someone can help, this is a really fun game.

Um... why can I see all kinds of stone in the walls that I shouldn't be able to see? Did you mod/hack this?

I ran reveal when I first started the fortress.

I've downloaded it and I'll take a look at some point.

Did you use any other utils or is this, otherwise, a plain DF installation?

Before embarking I ran regional prospector.  :D
@Toady: Thanks.

I'm having a similar problem with my own save. I'll post it in here, in case it is the same problem... For now, time to break ground in a new fortress. Good luck with your crash, Percy.

This save crashes after a few minutes... Sometimes right after meeting with the Human liason, other times shortly after. The game just hangs and exits - no error log is generated.

I suspect either the traders or a goblin ambush is bugging. I haven't modded this game (beyond editing my init for graphics and population), however I have used Gibbed's Tweak utility in the past to muddy a tile and decimate some early wildlife. I also ran Regional Prospector before embarking.

Oddly, even though I had my dwarf limit set around 25, I've been at 10 for a while, and I only received one immigrant at a time. Probably unrelated.

Thanks for DF Toady! I'm looking forward to its full release.

Okay, I've downloaded it and I'll check it at some point.  I still have to check the original, though.

Just by reading that I see you both have used the regional prospector tool... I dunno how that would cause a crash though...

Yeah, both of these crashes are caused by the same thing, which is goblin migrant groups try to move out of bounds on the world map.  I haven't figured it out yet (though I've stopped the crash and generated an error log message for it).  These could be goblin invaders that get their coordinates confused somehow.

How about goblins in cages?  The migrants were marked as being in cages.  Any memory of either chasming or trading away goblins in cages?  It's possible you could get the migrants in this way, and their locations might be corrupt by then.
